I am trying to sell a rifle on the EE, Its a norinco jw-21 with a tasco scope, everybody wants to meet in person to save on shipping, I live in the city, and with the memory of Dan Bylsma (not sure if thats spelled right) still fresh in my head I am not comfortable inviting strangers into my home, meet at some strangers home, or pull a gun out of the trunk of my car in a public parking lot. when I would sell my old stereo or snowboard on kijiji I would always meet at the bank or police station (they're close by). Why don't they want to pay for shipping it's like 50$ tops. anyways from now on I will just include shipping or say no to pick ups. Also everyone wants me to respond to them same day, (I work, and enjoy taking it easy in my off time), one guy responded to an add at 9pm with "can I pick it up today". I can only imagine what retailers are going through.

Just a guess here but considering you are new to the forum and have a low trader rating people might not want to take the risk of being scammed. Paranoia of strangers goes both ways...

I think your being a little overly protective myself, meeting in a parking lot is a good neutral place for both parties. The buyer can look it over, buy it or not, and be on his way.
Ive bought a couple from members here like that, and from other sources, the fellas have always been good standup guys.
If its a local sale, I'd rather pick it up instead of paying shipping and waiting

I never sell goods from my home, I always meet them either at their home, local range or a very public location.

Worst comes to worst I have my 85lb Germ Shep and a big ass bottle of bear spray in the vehicle, but I've never had a shifty experience from local sales/trades/ect.

Wait a min, your selling a USED norinco jw21 for 250 + 50 shipping = 300 when stores like lebarons, etc
are selling a better quality henry h001 for the exact same price, with local pickup? (the little membership
card you get from lebarons nicely knocks off the taxes.. )

Thanks everyone for your advice, seriously, I'm new so I want as much good advice as I can get. Grove, of course a dog sometimes I wonder about myself, we have a staffordshire terrier(pit bull), I also wanted to get a bit of a consensus for people here. I just have this image of being in the wallmart parking lot, pulling a rifle out the trunk and an off duty officer drives by at that exact moment. A bit paranoid, yes, but I also don't want to be short sighted, or make things worse for anyone else, after all there is only ONE gun store in all of toronto. And I would have to say that pretty much everyone I have met at the range and at gun stores in the gta are all great people, again thanks for all the advice, keep it comin. also are there any 353 members here? what do you think of meeting at the hall for this kind of thing?

well put your self in the Buyers shoes , your spending like 500 to 1,000 dollars on a firearm and you want to see it before you spend that kind of money , I saw a nice Beretta 92fs Inox on a website for sale in Alberta and I live in Manitoba and personally I would rather meet the person and feel the gun in my hands before I hand the money over so I know I got a gun not nothing .

If I wanted to buy something that was reasonably close to my house I would most definitely like to physically see it and possibly get it sooner and save money. I'm surprised about the level of paranoia these days where people rarely even "talk" to each other.

Pittsburgh Penguins head coach. Close.

And I have no problem with local pickups, do it in a public place in the day time and look at their trader ratings, maybe bring a friend or two if youre worried...

I am selling 2 handguns and want to meet buyer in person. If a guy shows up looks at the gun(tries it at the range) and buys it he can never go back and say
that i screwed him or misrepresented the firearm. Also i can check the pal in person as well and take cash for transaction. All these are pluses in my book.

I personalty prefer to buy anything used in person also same to sell. Just me. :) Nothing wrong with shipping buying thru forums. :)
