I just picked up a slug barrel for my ES100.
It has a choke installed, and a second one in a case, which is marked....

PB-F-SP *

I assume a full choke ok for steel shot (haven't looked at the one in the barrel yet).

But I didn't think slug barrels needed a choke, or at least not a choice of two.

Why? Do they affect accuracy much?
Would it affect foster or sabots differently?

Thanks.

A choked slug barrel is meant for Foster Or Rifled slugs, normally Mod down to Cyl Choke is best. For shooting Sabots you need a fully rifled slug barrel which has no chokes just rifling.

What is your definition of "a slug barrel"?

What did you buy? Is it just a short barrel with sights?

All barrels can shoot slugs, some better than others. If you want to shoot shot, then the different chokes are nice.

Yeah, a 24" with sights. I thought it was rifled though, and was looking forward to shooting sabots.

The short barrell for regular shot might be more useful/practical for me anyway....and I can always use fosters.

Plus, the chokes fit my trap barrel, so now I have a couple of spares, and I may not need the fore end that the rifled barrel uses.

A short smoothbore barrel with rifle sights and choke tubes is great for switching between hunting deer with slugs and hunting turkey with shot. I'm pretty sure the choke you were describing is for lead only (Pb is the symbol for lead in the table of elements). F would be full choke, no idea what sp* means. You could get an extended rifled choke tube if you want to try sabots in it.
