Why does the 336 play 2nd fiddle to the 94?

I’d have more 92’s & 94’s if not for a crappy shewt’in eye.
Both are great.
Marlins look better scoped small and low.

Not sure why’n tarrnayshun I sold my 336 in 35.
CP, I would pay you Tuesday furr it today.

Not from the factory, not 35 Remington. But there was a .356 Winchester at one time.

Yes, along with the 307 Win and 375 Win. All 3 chamberings were available in the Big Bore, reinforced action model. I reckon the company was rather reluctant to use a cartridge from their competing rivals, so they came up with these numbers to sell more units. They also didn't have to modify the bolt face or extractors to accommodate the smaller .460" rim diameter of the 35 Rem.

Winchester should have just chambered the M94 in 35-30. This was one of the first wildcat cartridges back around 1900 used to rebore & get better performance on game from worn 32-40 & 32 WCF barrels. In the 70's the 35-30 performed rather well in 500 meter silhouette rifles based on the Rem 788 units that came in 30-30 originally and using boolits up to 300 gr.

We have both

Both shoot great

No scopes tho....our religion says that if you scope a lever gun, when you die, you go straight to hell.....im not gonna risk it.....

Levers, I own 9 Marlins(4-336, 3-1894, 2-1895), 0 Winchesters and a Henry that I not that really fond of.
A couple of years ago, I shot a 45lc Winchester without a cowboy hat to redirect the brass. I was not impressed with the brass bouncing off my prescription glasses. It's rather impressive watching the shower of brass coming from a Winchester at a Cowboy Action shooting match. Brass from a Winchester falls at your feet, brass from a Marlin is over there somewhere.

Scopes:
:stirthepot2: IMO, the stupidest, ugliest, looking scope on any rifle are the one's with those freaking 'see thru rings'. WTF, how the hell does anyone shoot a rifle accurately with rings sitting up that high? Put a low power scope on it for crying out loud. If your worried about the scope failing, let the moths fly free of the wallet and spend a couple more dollars on a higher quality optic.

Without a scope I'd really be limiting the range I'd be able capable of taking game with a couple of my levers.
How many people hunt with a 308 using iron sights?

2009 Marlin 336 308Marlin Express c/w Vortex Diamondback 2-7*35 BDC

For the old & blind like me, the 1956 Marlin 336 35Rem is a rifle to look for. Last year of the Ballard rifling for those that like to cast & shoot their own and the first year they had a Factory drilled & tapped receiver.
My 1956 Marlin 336RC 35Rem c/w a Lyman peep. This rifle has the biggest forend of any Marlin I own, if I'm not mistaken it was often called a 'Perch Belly' forend.
Wonder if the 'new' Ruger made Marlins will have the receivers drilled & tapped for side mounted peep sights.

My 1960-61 Marlin 336RC 32Win Spl has a thin sleek forend.

My 1900 Marlin Safety 1894 25-20Win Takedown has a thin sleek forend.

Pictures I've seen of the new Ruger made 1895's show a thinner forend, but not as thin as my 32 or 25-20.

IMO, the biggest weak point with a 336 Marlin is the 'rear band screw'. They tend to bend and break. Good luck trying to find a replacement.
