Why doesn't anyone like the Winchester Marine Magnum?

I get a lot of BS about my winchester 1300 Defender as well. It seems nothing lives up to the reputation of the 870.

Except for the fixed bore on my 1300, I can't think of a reason to get rid of it.

870's are cool if you want to pimp it out or shoot 3 gun, but otherwise it's just a good quality cheap shotgun. However, they don't come in stainless!

While it's true that you'll hear lots about how great 870's are, it's more a factor of the number of 870 owners than a testament to their "superiority". I have to go on record as saying that the 870 is a hell of a gun for the money, because I wouldn't want to mislead you into thinking I dislike them for some reason.

Still, if it's a superior tactical shotgun you're after, look no further than Winchester. Both the model 12 and the 1897 were made in trench gun and riot configurations. Take your pick - open hammer or hammerless. Either way, they're the standard by which all other tactical shotguns are measured.

Unfortunately, economics being what they are, it's no longer realistic to put the kind of attention to detail and use the same quality of materials as was the norm in decades past.:(

I do love my winchester defender and it's been very reliable. I've put 3-400 rounds through it last year without any problems that weren't the result of me being too lazy to clean it.

Short, fast, light and easy to carry.

The 870 is a hell of a gun for the price.

On our recent shotgun course there where two 1300's...both #### the bed. The only other guns to fail where HP9's.

Mossberg and Remington rock.

A few years ago I way buying one or the other as a polar bear defense gun to have in my tent for months in the Arctic where I work in coastal areas and see lots of bears. I ended up going with the 870 because I'm always around salt water and in the boat etc... and I was more convinced that the nickel plated 870 would stand up to this abuse compared to the coastal marine, which has stainless barrel/magazine, but the receiver and guts are just regular black. YES, the 870 is very expensive in nickel plated, but I can tell you after 3 seasons up there that it stands up to salt corossion like you would not beleive. Thankfully, I've never had to shoot a polar bear with it, but it has fired many blanks to discourage them, as well as three rubber slugs for that bear that just woulnd't get the hint... The last 3 shells in the mag are always slugs, but I've only ever fired those at targets.
Back to the question though - other than the corrosion resistance I might just has likely gone with the winchester - never heard a bad thing about them.

1st gen MM has
stainless mag tube
sainless or chrome springs
stainless pins
stainless bolts
strainless pins
Nickle plated everything else
The MM is the best 870 that remington has to offer, i would bet my life on my 870 MM.

Perhaps the "people" you are speaking about didn't like the finish of the shotgun. I know when I first got into it, I wanted a Marine Magnum, but the new nickel finish looks absolutely horrid (in my opinion)... I know that I was expecting more of a chrome finish...

I still want to get a Marine type shotgun, but not the Remmy... has anyone personally seen the finish on the Benelli H2O Pump Tactical?
