Why Grandpa carries a gun...in his case...a pistol

In lalaland, that is Ottawa.
This Sly Slow Silly Old Fox is a greatgrandpa yet here in Canada I no longer have a pistol and if I did, not being a scofflaw of Canadian law, would not carry. So, I just cross my fingers and avoid certain areas of Ottawa. Yet, bad guys have wheels too, can be in any parking lot looking for a vulnerable old geezer like me. I'm always heads up but if I stumble at the wrong time in the wrong lot, well I can't finish that scenario....


Why Carry a Gun? (from the view point of an American in some states).

My old Grandpa said to me, 'Son, there comes a time in every man's life when he stops bustin' knuckles and starts bustin' caps and usually it's when he becomes too old to take an ass whooping.

I don't carry a gun to kill people; I carry a gun to keep from being killed.

I don't carry a gun to scare people; I carry a gun because sometimes this World can be a scary place.

I don't carry a gun because I'm paranoid; I carry a gun because there are real threats in the World.

I don't carry a gun because I'm evil; I carry a gun because I have lived long enough to see the evil in the World.

I don't carry a gun because I hate the government; I carry a gun because I understand the limitations of government.

I don't carry a gun because I'm angry; I carry a gun so that I don't have to spend the rest of my life hating myself for failing to be prepared.

I don't carry a gun because I want to shoot someone; I carry a gun because I want to die at a ripe old age in my bed and not on a sidewalk somewhere tomorrow afternoon.

I don't carry a gun because I'm a cowboy; I carry a gun because, when I die and go to Heaven, I want to be a cowboy.

I don't carry a gun to make me feel like a man; I carry a gun because men know how to take care of themselves and the ones they love.

I don't carry a gun because I feel inadequate; I carry a gun because unarmed and facing three armed thugs, I am inadequate.

I don't carry a gun because I love it; I carry a gun because I love life and the people who make it meaningful to me.

Police protection is an oxymoron: Free citizens must protect themselves because police do not protect you from crime; they just investigate the crime after it happens and then call someone in to clean up the mess.

Personally, I carry a gun because I'm too young to die and too old to take an ass whoopin'!
 
I really like the part that police don't protect us from crime but rather try to catch the person after they commit the crime.

Yup ya get older and the bad guys have the advantage
Self defence is a right not a privilege too many dumb ass lawyers worrying about criminals rights
I will protect my family and friends as needed at my home
Try to avoid bad spots in city's or where ever
But will absolutely defend my place and family with deadly force if needed
Never had a break in at my place but if it happens
I will not be calling 911 before or after
It will be dealt with , I have video cam's for when not at home
But when at home you better be able to read the warning signs
I will help most people but do not try to hurt any body in my family

My OP and my doubts about putting it here....

This came to me from a cousin living in Virginia within commuting distance of the Pentagon where he was on 9/11 top floor, opposite side to entrance where the plane hit. This building is so big, that my cousin and the other brass were still in the building at 4 PM, all ignorant of the horrendous events of the day!

I did not want to post it in the Other Topics forum because many do not have the time to go to what I call the bellow the belt forum.

So I am pleased that it has the positive reaction from all who replied to it. :wave:
