Why hunt woodchucks? (groundhogs)

The only other year round species we seem to have here is "Rock Dove".

They sure look like pigeons to me. Only place I ever see those are around the buildings downtown. Probably not the best place to go hunting. :)

They are pigeons.

Its just a fun day of shooting. Trying head shots at all sorts of unknown distances is the chalenge. A lot more fun than paper targets.

A bunch of years ago, just after my uncle had finished baling and left the big round bales in the fields, I managed to get 42 groundhogs in one day. The bales were great cover as you could simply walk up behind the bales to get within a reasonable (+/- 80 yards) distance. I used a Marlin .22 Mag bolt action rifle with a little fixed scope on it. Lots of food for the vultures after that!

Getting to shoot at 6 - 10 after supper was a great way to end the day.

Out at a buddy's near Long Point, his 22-250 would reliably vapourize the little buggers inside 200 yds.

PS there was one living on the Crumlin handgun range for a whole summer until they had to raise the berm!

Thats funny, at my range there is a sh!t load of groundhogs and bunnies with burrows all along the rifle range. There is an unspoken agreement that we are not shooting them.
