Why I own Leupold scopes?

Why? Because the warranty service rocks! I've mostly used Leupold scopes for years and twice I've had to use their warranty. The first time was a pair of gold ring binos that suffered an accident and the tubes got out of alignment, mailed them in and they came back fixed with in a month no charge.

The second case was just this week. Last year I bought an old vari-x III 3.5-10x 40mm AO scope on the EE, when it showed up it was in very rough shape. I mounted it but it was not functional, which is a first for me with leupold scopes. I sent it in to Korth about three days ago, today they called and told me it was toast and not repairable.... however, they would send me a brand spanking new VX-3 4.5-14x 40mm AO in it's place w:h: This is why I buy leupold scopes, both new and used :D

VX3 doesn't come in 4-12, but the VXII does...

Did the seller know it was screwed when you bought it?

Now let's wait patiently for the Korth haters to arrive... :(

I still like my Leupolds. I have upgraded a few to NF but if I have a Leupold on my gun, I am confident in its performance. That piece of mind is well worth the premium price.

Ok scope police ;)

I've got my facts strait now:

vari x iii 3.5-10x40mm AO was toast, Korth will be sending a new VX-3 4.5-14x40mm AO to replace it.

I don't think the original selling knew it was dead, if he did he should have sent it in himself.

Here is a photo of the dead scope:

This is what they are sending me:

I have owned 15 Leupold scopes over the years, and my only issues were with two scopes whose magnification rings were so tight,it took both hands to move them. These were new scopes,so the Leupold QC was obviously lacking to let them pass inspection.Aside from one design defect, Leupold does make a quality product. However that design defect, which is the huge variation in eye relief in the variable scopes, will keep me from purchasing Leupold scopes in the future.

Great buy then, a brand new lastest model scope for the price of a use one!!!! You can't go wrong with buying quality.

Leupold all the way I have been using and retailing there scopes since 1977 and had to send very few back for warranty and went i did i had the same results very positive .

Wow, that's quite an upgrade. The old VariX-III is pretty much the equivalent to a new VXII, so you made out like a bandit on that one! That's an $800 scope.

All of my rifles wear Leupold glass, some are 25 years and still working fine. Never had to send one of mine in but when I was working a gun counter I sent a few in that had problems that were NOT manufacturing defects. Korth fixed or replaced every one, no charge, no questions asked. IMO that was a huge customer relation coup for them. To bad that has changed.

I've always been a hardcore Leupold fan, and their warranty was one of the big reasons why I loved them so much. I've got about two dozen Leupolds in my collection right now, mostly Vari-X III, VX-3 and Mark 4 tactical scopes.

As much as I love them, the recent decision related to how and why they will warranty their scopes vis a vis the Korth Group has made me reasses things. Gun owners are bullied enough by the forces of government and the gun-control advocates, we shouldn't have to put up with further restrictions or being told who we can buy scopes from....or else.

I had planned on another Mark 4 for a new tactical rifle build. Looks like I'll be spending a couple hundred extra bucks and going with the Nightforce instead. I think I've bought my last new Leupold scope here in Canada. That saddens me...

I only have two and really like them, but will probably look elsewhere to a different manufacturer for my next one also.

I've got lots of Leupolds. Whenever I get a 'favorite', it gets a Gold Ring, whether I can 'afford' it or not. Have never needed warranty. I don't know anything about the politics of what's been posted above, but the guy who sells them to me will stand behind them. All I need. Like so many things in life, lets hope they remember their roots.

Who does warranty work on NF scopes in Canada? FS

choices

There was a time when I thought that Bushnell was dollar for dollar the best bang for your buck. I think that was when I was a Bushnell rep.

I own and shoot a lot of rimfire rifles and Leupold make the 2 best scopes for rimfire rifles the 3-9x33 and the 2-7x28. Mind you when I was buying these no one in Canada ever stocked the Weaver 2.5-7 or their 3-9 and Nikons were not in abundant supply either.
So until some one starts stocking Weavers, I'll continue to buy the Leupold product. FS

Well said. All of my scopes are Leupold and have been for many years now. I am at 8 or so right now and have owned many more, but I don't think I will be buying another in the future either.

I had a hunter last fall come with a brand new benelli auto loader that was wearing leupold glass and it was bad right out of the box. He had it mounted and boresighted by his gun smith then brought it out to sight in. we could not get it to group at all. Tried all of the usual things rechecked the screws etc and after a couple of boxes of shells we simply couldn't believe that it was the scope until I did the impact test. Then it was clear..... the scope for some reason was no good.... with that said i own several leupolds my self and they are all good never an issue. I haven't spoke to the hunter since he left so not too sure if he got a new one or not....
