Why I refurbish Lee Enfields?

Hi everyone,

Some of you already know, a chance meeting with a WW2 veteran about two years ago got me started. His story of how he walked most of the way from France to Germany, his Enfield, trustworthy like no other by his side, had quite an impact on the young, free, priviledged Canadian family man that I am.

I got my brother hooked on the Lee Enfield thing now.

He, the history freak of our family, dug out a few things recently from the Archives of Canada. Three notes; one is a "particulars of recruit", the other two "Attestation Paper, Canadian Over-seas Expeditionary Force". The one posted below is for Francis Senechal, an uncle of my Grandfather (on my dad's side). I wonder if he had a Smelly by his side...

Who knows Lou, you may have already de-bubba'd his rifle and don't know it! It's really too bad they can't tell us what they've seen, done and who they've served with. What an awesome piece of history your brother found there and a great link to those brave men that served not only our country but others as well.
I feel the same way as you do about the old 303s as you know well. Still working on de-bubba'ing mine though. I'm pretty slow at it, but I'll get it done so that I can experience the rifle just like the soldiers did before.

It's an important part of our history that you're ensuring will be around for years to come. I've said it before but I think it bears repeating; owning and shooting a Lee Enfield rifle isn't a privilege, it's the birth rite of every Canadian because it allows us to share the experience of those who gave so much for our Country.

Its really special when you see this stuff. I researched the same for my grandfather who was with the 54th Kootenay Battalion in WW1. Recently I found a notebook of his in some stuff when we moved my father from the family home. Here are 3 images which I cannot believe I have.

I also have his service pistol and sam brown.

It surely was a different place and time.
