Why is .303 british so god damn expensive to shoot? smh.

Not just .303. I was in Cabellas on the weekend and any centre fire rifle ammo is running about $3 per round and match ammo more than that. Even bullets for reloading are about a buck each. You just have to keep your eyes open for deals. You can still find more reasonably priced ammo at gun shows but even then its more and more few and far between.

why would it be any less exspensive than any other calibre
i'm interested i this logic
it would cost the manufacture the same for 308 dia bullets as 311 the powder the primers
labour everything

Don’t shop at cabelas there quiet a bit more expensive than anywhere else

Plus 303 British still much in use in Canada but not in US where much of the ammunition we buy is loaded. Even .311 projectiles are not easily attainable now. And limited selection. I think old military ammo supply is just about dried up here at least non corrosive stuff.
Availability is better at least. A few years ago you couldn't find it at any price.

It used to be a relatively popular hunting cartridge, and was commonly available from Imperial, etc. I can't recall it was particularly more expensive than standard sporting cartridges.

Thanks to things like economy of scale, it actually costs them MORE to make less common stuff.

Simply put, 303brit isn't very popular, especially stateside which is what drives demand for the most part. Even in Canada, it's really fallen off in the last decade or two, the Sporter Enfield no longer rules the north woods...

A few years ago shortages caused by the government sponsored fake virus made that true of a great many products.
303 ammo unavailability wasn't something special.

For a while last year crappy tire had these blue and white boxes of "rifle line" 303 that sold for about $33 a box, which is pretty fine in my book. I bought what they had, but I haven't seen it at any of them since.

It's not as bad as 45-70 to feed the marlin though!
