Why is 308 so popular for Precision?

What can you throw further, a tennis ball or a tennis ball-sized rock?

Poor analogy, the density of lead is the same in both bullets. Where you are stating the two are of the same size, but much different in weight. It would have worked better if you used two different sized rocks, or even better, the shape of the rocks.

My next build will be a 6mm something.

I do love the 260 Remington. Flat fast and wind bucking ( 123 gr Lapua's 3000 fps plus)

And it's a great killing round 124 noslers too.

I never tried the 139/140 bullets cause the 123s are like lasers

.308 can be very accurate. It is very user friendly. Outstanding barrel life. Widely available components.
Past 500m, there are better cartridges.
Having shot a .308 for years, I have switched to .260, 139 Scenars @2850. At long range, the performance in the wind is significantly superior.

Try the 123. It's awesome.

Every youngster i teach to shoot are learning on a 308, when you master the 308 you are never in trouble, they say some calibers are better to buck the wind, i agree...
For me the 308 is a do it all charismatic caliber and if i would have to choose, the only caliber i would keep... JP.

Which nosler do you use, and on what game.

I am planning on 123 Scenar for my .260, but wanted a good deer hunting bullet too. Just waiting for my McMillan stock to arrive for bedding.
