Why *IS* ammo so expensive in Canada?

Like everyone said, a confluence of factors: Higher demand in the U.S./lower demand in Canada, lack of domestic production, export costs, pricing in U.S. dollars/weak CDN dollar, regulatory costs.

I would not be surprised if costs exploded over the coming years. If the Liberals aren't stupid, they'll make ammunition control just as important as gun control to advance their agenda. "You want to be out of compliance with whatever gun registry/banning we implement? Fine. What are you going to feed that rifle if we control commercial ammunition and reloading components?"

The Messiah in the U.S. knew that when he ordered the ATF to go after M855/Greentips. And don't think that story is over.

Super insightful...

Metals are commodities... The price of which is subject to market conditions, economics, politics and sun spots.

Ultimately ...... it's about disarming us.

Liberals ? Look a little deeper as to who their string pullers really are.

Oh please. Remember your mother said you were special ;) and I have been nice to you don't make me change my mind.. Believe me my balls are HUGE from always getting kicked in them if nothing else. I live with three ladies. Think about that. I already did at least 5 things wrong this morning and kicked twice, despite the fact I make them breakfast, put the tree up and did my house chores. :)
I'm sorry the cape isn't the center of the universe to you but it is to me. I've done my time in Alberta as most down this way have and YOU CAN HAVE IT also some day soon unfortunately :( we will all be wishing we had the NRA as a crutch here
take care :)

Mom said I'm special. Yes, I said that - the "special" remark was a joke I made several years on the forum and you were the only one who thought I actually meant it - apparently I'm not the only "special" one here. :)

I expect CB is the centre of the universe for you. I lived in NS and I don't care for it - felt like prison - way too many rules and restrictions, and too many busy bodies that felt they needed to stick their nose in my business. Although I don't need the NRA to give me balls, I have been a member for over twenty years.

I never liked you very much either but I expect you are probably a better person in person than your online persona suggests. Have nice day on the cape, yank, and try to keep those great big colourful balls from getting stepped on as you drag them down the sidewalk. :)

I was in at Cabelas yesterday. Federal Gold Medal Match .308 168gr....$54.95 for a box of 20 rounds. (All in price in Edmonton is $57.70 or $2.89 per round.)

Wuff!! Unbelievable, considering I bought that same stuff in June for $1.69 per round (all in) from an on-line vendor.

EDIT: And when asked by me why Cabelas ammo prices were so high, the guy behind the gun counter blamed the Canadian dollar.

There are good deals on ammo if you look. Canada Ammo sells Federal 45acp for $25 a box, with free shipping - not too many places in the US can beat that price.

Cabela's never has had good prices on ammo. There are much better places to shop in Edmonton for ammo.

You have my sincere apologies on the special comment. I thought it was just a joke as we laughed about it some years ago as you mentioned. It clearly struck something this time that is none of my business and again my apologies. I will never reference it again
Never did I say I didnot like you in fact enjoy most of your posts and support a high percentage
As far as my online persona OUCH
I am what I am and too old to change now but sorry if you find it offensive however I know I have helped more members here than hurt them.
take care

No need to change for me, and you're not so very offensive most of the time but you do tend to spout off when someone pours sand in your britches. I should probably stop doing that.

But you know, the USA actually does produce a lot more turkeys.

I love you too, man. :)

The USA is not the place they took me out of over 50 plus years ago that is for sure to the point there are places I avoid now when back. That is sad but true. You must see it also
You take care and have a Merry Christmas and I love you too ;)
