Why is it illegal to use air craft when hunting?

I used to shoot trap with a fellow back home(northern ont) who owned a pair of float planes. He used to jump in his plane and go for a scout to find which ponds or fields ducks were using before a duck hunt so I imagine he was doing the same thing with deer and moose though he would never say he was. In fact his duck scouting trips were always worded in such a way as to make it sound like he "happened" to see a few birds at such and such location and was going to see about hunting them in a day or two......

Using a plane or helicopter for scouting isn't illegal, is it?

Not if doing so does not directly connect you up with game. Usually. Sorta.

Read YOUR regs. Every province I have hunted in, had something different to say about Hunting and Aircraft. Some clearly defined the time time restrictions, others had rules about using information from airplanes for hunting, or restrictions on the type of aircraft you could use (BC, not allowed to transport game by helicopter).

Moot point if you don't actually have a plane to use, but if you want to go sightseeing, there is no reason not to. You MAY have regulations that require you do not hunt for a period of time after the flight. Great way to see the travel patterns and trails though.

Regs. Read and understand 'em!

In Canada, if it flies, it's an Aircraft, whether you are in it or not.

That pretty much rules out radio control anything, as a hunting aid.

not sure why anyone with a aircraft would go low enough to the ground spotting animals, I would figure it could and does piss off hunters below, I fly a small plane from my strip, this time of year I do not fly because there is heavy bust a mile south and east, pretty low landing from that direction, a couple years ago after I landed we noticed a bullet impact on the underside of the engine cowl, fortunately it did not go thro

When I was working in Northern Sask. we are spotting moose from the helicopter like crazy. Whenever we landed anywhere near a Highway etc. we had the locals coming up and asking where they were. We just said that we didn't see any. From the helicopter we could spot a Moose from kilometers away.

BS on the bullet impact on your plane they are built like beer cans even a 22 would penetrate from any angle!

Have the indent on the cowl, pushed in against the supports, had it been a inch either side agree the aluminum would have a hole, willing to send a picture if you need proof

I find it very sad that the question was even asked. As for drones, most jurisdictions are in the process of making laws, or already have created them to prevent their use for hunting.

I completely agree with any regulations that prevent hunting from aircraft or using drones for hunting. I just wish there was more enforcement of the game laws we have.

Guy asks why he can't jump out of a helicopter and shoot an animal and everyone bands together and says its fair chase.

My thread about crown land someone says its legal/acceptable to jump out of a truck and shoot in Manitoba, which its not legal! And everyone says its all good as long as you get meat on the table... :/

If your regs say you can't hunt within 6 hours of landing. Land at sunset , set up camp, have a nice dinner and a beer. Get a good nights sleep , wake up and go hunting !

Ya, I really got sh*t on like I'm some sort of idiot... Ohh well...

Guess we'll just stick to using the whirly bird for sightseeing and mountain top pond hockey.

Thanks guys.

Ever talk to any fliers from WW2? Guys who piloted fighters on strafing runs? They can tell you about bullet impacts that never penetrated wings or cowlings and only left dents or tiny punctures that never went completely through........

I can tell you that the bottom of a navajo going over a village friday after 2pm looks like hail damage. BTW chuck yeager would disagree
