Why is it that every time a minty 1911A1 from WWII shows up on the EE I miss it by a few hours.
Because you are one of many here that are on the hunt for the same thing. Minty examples don't even show up that often, even the rough ones don't last long.
Yes, they are certainly drying up.
Still waiting for another original, correct, nice condition "GHD" inspected 1943 Colt mfg USGI 1911A1 to come my way again.
Wish I'd only knew circa 1995 when they were plentiful and ~ $350 that they'd be as scarce as they are today.....

Because you don't spend enough time on CGN EE
Check it at least 5 times a day if you want to get the good deals or the hard to find stuff. Also check at night, I've found some fresh listings for good deals at 3 in the morning (shiftwork has some advantages). I use my phone and check whenever I think about it. I spend most of the day at work on the site as well.
My girlfriend keeps telling me to stop buying stuff off here but I just tell her how much it would have cost to buy from the store and that I would have bought it anyway eventually. When I bought 2 pistols by "accident" she told me I may have a problem. I just wasn't expecting the first offer to be accepted and then felt I was committed when he replied the next day accepting the offer and I had already made another deal while waiting for the reply. oooops
My buddies can't believe some of the deals I find.
A WTB ad is also a great way to find what your looking for. You'll be surprised how many replies you get from guys that were thinking of listing something and seeing the ad helps them decide to sell it and makes for an easy sale for them.
Keep at it and I'm sure you'll find exactly what your looking for
