Hey Guys:

I trying to seat the bullet into the brass and when I put it into the RCBS bullet die I notice the neck of my 223 brass gets crushed and therefore is rendered useless. Its like I am pressing the shell holder to far and for some reason its crushing the necks any idea why this maybe happening? This is really irritating. I wasted roughly 5 cases so far.

Have you chamfered the cases? Are you seating flat base bullets? Back the seater adjustment out and try to seat another bullet. Turn it back down a little at a time until you get the right seating deepth. Seating bullets does not take allot of pressure, slow and easy is the way to go.

You have the die screwed too far into the press.

Take the die out and back the seating stem out a fair ways.

Put a empty case in the shell-holder and raise the ram all the way up.

Screw the die back into the press with the case still in the raised position. You will feel when the crimping ring touches the case mouth. At that point back the die out one full turn and set the lock ring down.

Now reset the seating stem.

haha I had this exact thread about 2 months ago. Seated the die too far down - with the ram all the way up, you want to have some clearance between the die and the shell holder. At least, that was the noobie mistake I made.

Good luck sorting it out.

Thanks guys, you guys where right on the money. Thanks again for all the help in this process. Its great you can come to a place and there is a wealth of information to guide you.
