why is my rifle not selling?*** it SOLD afterall

I know this may not be the forum for this but I will ask anyhow..
I have a new unfired Rem 700 XCR tactical long range 300wm that I need to sell to pay bills. I have owned it 6 months and it has done nothing more than sit in my safe, I paid $1660 with tax at Wanstalls , I see they have them at WSS for about $1500 out the door now.

any how I have mine listed for just $1099 which is pretty cheap I think.

I have had basically no interest in it:(
any ideas why?? is the 300wm not a popular choice for a target gun??

because no one who has money , who wants to buy a rifle like yours has seen your ad yet .

when dingus posted ad's to sell some of his revolvers , i'd give my right nut to be able to buy a couple of them at the time , but lack of funds prevented that from happening .
 
Our local Canadian Forces range won't allow 300WM. Don't know if that edict is Canada wide or not. You would think it would be if its a Federal range. Sounds like a great deal you have there for the right person.
 
I'm sure its a great gun and a good deal, but like its been mentioned, there's not alot of money for high end quality stuff right now. The group of people playing at that level of firearm is small compared to say the SKS group.

If it was a 308win, you can move it quicker, 7remmag is another nice choice. did you post some picture of the rifle, that would help much.
 
In my mind .300WM is more of a hunting calibre than a target calibre. Too much recoil as a replacement for .308 and not enough horsepower to run with the big .338's. If I was looking for a rifle like yours I would snap it up as that is a screaming deal, but I'm not. I think it is just an odd combination of platform and calibre and you will have to go a ways before you find someone looking for that.

No idea - the market for target rifles just seems to be slower right now. I finally just sold a souped up 700 Police in 7mm Rem Mag - it took me forever and I took a major loss on the deal. I hated to see it go for the price it did - but I wanted another scope more...

The ironic thing is that when I first listed it months and months ago I had tons of interest, but lately there has been next to none.
 
A lot of the calibers mentioned here are hard recoiling and barrel burners, not my idea of a target rifle(esp. the .300 Mag.).

Its very possible that people are worried about these things.

Barrels do seem to suffer a 1500ish round life on the internet when their actual life is much longer - and how many people ever shoot enough to wear a barrel out? Certainly some people will, but I think they are a small minority - I know I have never retired a barrel due to high round count. With no experience of my own in this area, I have to rely on what others tell me, and I have been told by much more experienced individuals that barrel life is much less dependant on round count, and much more dependant on how hot you let the barrel get while you are shooting... for example, you could 'burn out' a brand new barrel with a hundred rapid shots in a row.

As for recoil - brakes people - breaks! Seriously why doesn't everyone use them, they are the best thing since sliced bread! I did not describe the breaked 7mm Rem Mag I just sold as having recoil, I referred to it more appropriately as vibration. I even put breaks on .223s so you can shoot faster. I would love to shoot F-Class, but refuse to until you guys stop being such suckers for punishment. Sure I could shoot a lighter recoiling calliber, but where is the fun in that?

Talk to Rick from ATR. He had some crazy ammount of shots down his 300wm since he used Gun Juice.

As for brakes, I think they have their purpose but I'm sure glad everyone doesnt have one. Nothing like blowing your ears out while hunting.
I had to read the post twice. A brake on a 223? Interesting.

The fun in shooting a lighter recoiling calibre is that you can focus on technique instead of randomly blasting off rounds. You also get the benefit of not having to use a brake.

Take a look at a lot of the precision shooters. They're shooting variations of the 6mm and 6.5mm.
 
Give it time, it will sell.

Add a few picture to the ad. Upload them to photobucket or tinypic and then you can embed them to the forum.

Guys who like guns also like pictures. We are simple creatures.
 
For a hunting rig, it'll work just fine, maybe a bit heavy. Stainless barrel and receiver with black trinyte coating to prevent glare & a Bell & Carlson stock.
 
I'd say, if there's no pictures, that'd be your problem there. When I'm buying something that's been removed from the factory wrappers, I want something better than a vague "mint"-like description. Many people have different opinions of what constitutes a "notable" safe kiss, and what-not...


Try a sale price of $950. Betcha it'll go like a hotcake. :)
 
I met a guy at the range yesterday who just bought a new rifle in that caliber, forgot the brand but it looked smokin hot. He told me that he paid 1,300 for a rifle which is usually 1,800 and they gave him a high powered scope for free on top of that. Man, does that caliber ever make booom but who can afford the ammunition and who wants to have that recoil?

That is probabley the best advice. Keep in mind that not all new rifles come from the factory with out problems. Buying a used, unfired rifle for only a few hundred less then new kinda leaves a purchaser with little recourse if he discovers a bad chamber, mis aligned scope mount holes etc etc.

Generally when you purchase new consumer goods count on 50% depreciation upon leaving the door. Sure you might get 70-80% but realistically the cash right now price is </= to 50%.

Because on the range they are an ignorant abomination which makes everyone else's day far less enjoyable. In the field they are not required, and for the price of one you can buy a crap load of powder.
I 'd rather have a slightly bruised shoulder then any more ringing in my ears or trouble hearing what I want to hear.

2 Words people - hearing protection!
You should be wearing hearing protection no matter what you shoot, with or without a break, if you are then whats the difference in a few more decibles that you can't hear.


Definitely post a photo - that has always brought in more interest for me. Two other tricks to consider:
First, I have also went a week with no interest at a given price and then goten some PMs after adding the letters "OBO" behind the price.
Second, adding shipping costs into your asking price seems to get more interest for some reason - perhaps because it eliminates any uncertainty as to what the entire process will cost.
