Why is squirrel season so short in Southwestern Ontario?

Sent an email to the ministry but no response yet. Squirrel season in wmu 93 and 94 is only from October 30-November 7. Everywhere else seems to be September-December. Anyone know why?

Wow I had to do a double take on that. 9 day squirrel season? Thats very odd.

I'm thinking it might have to do with the fact that that region is a very important area for hawk, raptor, and owl migration. Could be wrong though.

I live in Vancouver and the electric bus lines and bus kill more of them than hunters would.

I've wondered that for years. Used to love squirrel hunting, but now that I go north for deer, I never get the chance around home anymore. Please let me know if you get a response.

If you look at the charts you'll see a pattern where the more northern WMU's (low numbers) have seasons on rabbit and squirrel that open sooner and are longer than southern WMU's. But, that's a very short season for tree rats.
