Why is the 870 Wingmaster more expensive?

Hey guys, I have a quick question. I shot a friend's old wingmaster and loved it. It was almost like shooting a .22 and could hardly miss a skeet with it. Then someone else brought out a big fancy, shiny shotgun (sorry, didn't catch make or model). I had a lot of trouble hitting anything with it - and it kicked the crap out of me to boot!

So basically I want to get a Wingmaster for my first shotgun. Should I buy his used Wingmaster or buy a brand new one? His gun was made in the '70's. Any input would be appreciated.

Were they both the same gauge? That may explain the lighter kick. I never fired a wingmaster before though so maybe they do absorb a lot of recoil

I think it would be a case of that 870's stock fitting you well. It's always easier to shoot a gun well if it fits and the recoil will also seem lighter.

Yaa... fit and finnish, fit and finnish... what ever....same fricken parts. After 2 years in the bush... they're all wingmasters. Even with ###lord tactical s**t and hole saw attachments on the barrel. Much like women...the dirty old ones are wayyyyyy better. Most Weekenders guns actually see very little daylight, so a parkerized reciever is as good as a chinese scope on a target rifle. Listen to the action. it'll tell you all you need to know. Happy Canada day yeee haaaa.

Parts are not the same, many are different - trigger guard, magazine parts, stocks, etc!

I just wanted to thank you guys for all of your input. I am surprised by the amount of replies this thread got when there are so damn many threads on this site to read through! I am really impredd with this site and hope I can find the time to hang around here for a while.

I am going to go ahead and buy the used wingmaster. With the money I save, I can buy another gun now! When will it end.....?

the 870 wingmaster is indeed very nice but is it better than a browning BPS ? as i bought 2 browning bps hunters and they were 559 dollars each and the wingmaster comes in at over 700 dollars so i choose bps over any remmington pump

How do you know how old the gun is? mine was bought used, but has screw in chokes

Just don't use it with steel shot and the full choke tube installed. Any Rem Choke barrel is fine with steel shot. Any older fixed choke barrel from an 870, 11-87, 1100, or 3-inch 3200 is safe for steel shot of #1 size or smaller with a full choke and any steel shot with a modified or more open choke.

Remington does make a full choke tube that is steel shot rated that is marked REMINGTON FULL-STEEL OR LEAD.

This information comes from a leaflet that came with an 870 barrel I bought recently.
