Why is the Barrett 50 prohib?

Asking why something prohibited is like asking why is there gravity. It just is. It is an order given by the government, perhaps just for emotional whims without reason, and you must obey!

I'm reminded of something learned by concentration camp inmates in the second world war.

Hier ist kein warum. "Here there is no 'why'."

why is the sky blue?

The blue color of the sky is due to Rayleigh scattering. As light moves through the atmosphere, most of the longer wavelengths pass straight through. Little of the red, orange and yellow light is affected by the air.

However, much of the shorter wavelength light is absorbed by the gas molecules. The absorbed blue light is then radiated in different directions. It gets scattered all around the sky. Whichever direction you look, some of this scattered blue light reaches you. Since you see the blue light from everywhere overhead, the sky looks blue.

geez I am a science nerd But I cant answer why all the cool stuff is prohib

LOL, looks like someone else took Geography courses in University!

Back on topic, Canadian firearm prohibitions are based on looks alone. You can't rationalize anything.

Most likely they intended to prohibit all .50's but they just made a list of what was available when they made the list..as said above anything that looked nasty was prohibited.. Look at all the little rimfires they prohibited! They all could have been used in some sort of space movie..( american 180 or calico)

you haven't been able to get the m82 since 1992, even then, when the order first came out, the owners had only 2 options, get them sold stateside or turn them in for destruction- being a long gun, i'm not sure if they needed special registration in the first place or exactly how the rcmp found out who had them ,but the numbers were not high and they didn't get grandfathered- afaik, the spas didn't get grandfathered either-they used the california model of "evil guns" to base the prohibs( the ar 15 was just a gopher gun back then) and added anything that they THOUGHT could be potentally dangerous- taken to the extreme, we could have ended up with everything being prohibited, and except for public opinion, would have- there was also a scheme to prohibit people in metro areas from owning as we "HAVE NO LEGITIMATE NEED " for them, you only need guns to control wildlife- we'll probably NEVER get things the way they should be, but at least the downward spiral has stopped , for now

The "Prohib" regulations have never made any sense.

Even some of the bolt action McMillan .50 BMG rifles are prohibited, while there are others that are not..........go figure.

SKBY.

I believe a politician saw the movie ROBOCOP and saw how effective it was blowing up cars. Now this expert added the .50 cals to the list. Most politicians get their information from U.S. TV, U.S. MOVIES and the Newspapers reporting U.S. NEWS.

"...regulations have never made any sense..." And trying to figure out the why's and wherefore's can give you brain damage.
Firearms get and got prohibited because some twit saw some Hollywood nonsense and decided that couldn't be done here. 4" barrels and .25's and .32's got prohibited so the Socialist F**ks could wipe out an entire class of handgun in one swoop. Otherwise it's just 'because'.

They found out who owned them by going from gunshop to gunshop looking at the sales register ( the FA book) they then proceed to harass the owners, in at least one case requiring him to prove with a copy of an ATF form that the rifle in question had left the country. That is how firearms confiscation happens in Canada. Oh, yes and they threaten the gunshop owner with pulling their license too.

Oh, and those who want a SPAS have never tried to reload one without a bench. Not Good.

The prohib regulations actually make perfect sense. Watch the RoboCop series and the first 2 Terminator movies. Virtually every banned gun shows up in these movies. Now we just have to ban evil robots and everyone will be safe.
