Why is the Barrett 50 prohib?

Mohawks . They siezed my legally aquired , legally registered Feather AT-22 and i don't think the Mohawks even had one . 5 guys , including me had the Feathers siezed and i know half a dozen others that lost thier SPAS-12's . And todays lesson class , registration means future confiscation .

I believe a politician saw the movie ROBOCOP and saw how effective it was blowing up cars. Now this expert added the .50 cals to the list. Most politicians get their information from U.S. TV, U.S. MOVIES and the Newspapers reporting U.S. NEWS.

That wasnt a Barrett, it was a Cobra Assault Cannon. Unfortunatly it's also listed in the prohib list, right under the Barrett

-The firearms of the designs commonly known as the Barrett "Light Fifty" Model 82A1 rifle and the Barrett Model 90 rifle, and any variants or modified versions of them including the Cobra Assault Cannon.

PS: If anyone actually looks this up, I'll be very disapointed :)

"...by going from gunshop to gunshop..." Yep and they knew which gun shops sold them because of their forms. As far as I know, the forms are not in place by legislation. They're an ATF regulation that has become law. They're also the U.S. government agency that decided our Southern cousins can't have semi'd MG's. There's no law that says, once an MG always an MG, Stateside.

The ironic thing about the seizure of Feather's AT-22 and AT-9 is that the gun was very cleverly designed in such a way that any attempt to make it full auto would result in an unfireable gun, and that didn't help it one little bit. :bangHead:

Because they seized one at Oka and panicked.

They freak out that one of these evil gun could have taken' down a CF helicopter. But the Afghan where able to shoot down Hinds with their old .303 with shot out barrels by shooting at the rotor hub.

Which might be valid if we were discussing handguns.

As far as I know, gunshops in Canada are still required to keep a book into which all firearm sales are written - it's been this way for 25 years at least. This book is normally referred to as "The Firearms Book". It wasn't particularly tough, they visited all of the gunshops. It doesn't matter where the firearm comes from, if they want to know where a gun is they can find the first owner - that's all they needed to find in this situation. The ATF were not involved, I don't even think they called Customs, they didn't need to -just went to the dealers and looked at the book. There aren't enough dealers that it's a huge deal to see them all within about two weeks.

Because they know that it can penetrate car armour.... Can't allow joe public to have a bigger gun than the local tac unit...

Just about ANY centrefire rifle can swiss cheese a car; the SOLE reason the Barrett was prohibited is because it looks mean, and it caught the eye of the CFGC weasels that were flipping through Gun Digest deciding what to ban next.

Not to mention that there are other .50 BMG rifles out there, and even civilian owned AT rifles like the Soviet 14.5 mm PTRD.

Barrett ban

Told at the club that the barrett was banned by name, told by the CFC that the newer Barretts are also banned because they are variants of.
And to find an owner of a 50 is easy, he,s the only one in line to by cci #35 arsenal primers, his trunk is riding lower because of the weight of all the damn equipment and last but not least is his bank account is dwindling faster than the other guys because of the ammo budget.
Quick ask me how i know, laff.

I guess you must have dyslexia:eek: If yu read more carefully I said penetrate car ARMOUR! Get it ARMOUR! Look up the definition of armour. And no not all rifle calibers in the .30 cal class can defeat standard armour, some yes, all no. A .50 on the other hand can defeat pretty much anything the cops tac units use up to and including the basic modern infantry LAV III in its stock form. I.E. without add on armour.

Looks maybe, but reality like I said.

2 miles, huh? Who is going to make that shot, you?

Hey what are you implying here to m39a2, THAT HE COULD NOT MAKE A TWO MILE SHOT WITH A .50

Are you awhere that a Canadian Soldier holds the world record for a sniper kill using the .50 at 2400m?? Probably not that must be why you are so cocky.

Good on you m39a2, as I agree that this is another more likely reason why the .50 is banned. Again you can't have joe public able to shoot a .50 slug accurately out to two miles, upping and or equaling what they may or may not have in their inventory.

Someone out there wanted to back up the BS, by saying that yeah, especially when the russian AT 14.5mm is allowed. Buddy, no comparison to the modern Barrett .50 SNIPER RIFLE.

Guys got to stop shooting down people with your bull #### replies.
