Why is the Benelli M4 revered while the Benelli MR1 is despised?

Reliability and NR status are about the only positives. It's a gun for 1980 not 20xx.

I find that statement bizarre at best. It express's disdain for 99% of all firearms currently marketed...

If you are as confused by my statement as I am by yours, that's bad. I have no disdain for the gun it just doesn't have much going for it. Being reliable and NR doesn't mean much when plenty of other guns are also reliable, NR, and have other qualities like being more accurate, less expensive, having better aftermarket support, better features out of the box, better ergonomics etc..

Now I'm following you. Read that as saying all old tech firearms are bad, which I couldn't see someone of your seniority saying.

Definitely not what I meant, retro is a huge interest of mine. I mostly meant they designed it like it was 1980, back when ergonomics and function were either not given much thought or sacrificed. I suppose you could extend that back and forward as long as you like and still be a bit correct but it's what came to mind. Plenty of old guns are not only great but still holding their own to this day, like the AR.

We're on the same page. The MR1 definitely is more relevant due to its current NR status. Funny what we deal with in order to use firearms the way they were intended, unrestricted.

At that price I think it is worth buying despite the drawbacks that have been mentioned, and most of the drawbacks were easy to mitigate.

The MR1 is overpriced and it does not hold its value. 2300 new and they can often be picked up for 1500-1800 used in near new condition. At that price I think it is worth buying despite the drawbacks that have been mentioned, and most of the drawbacks were easy to mitigate.

You used to get them cheaper - the ones on the ee are likely older ones people aren't losing any money on. Holding their value well.

That is a good point. I notice many MR1 on EE/GP are the Urbino stock, which were probably bought under $2000 way back, but it also brings down the price of the newer released MR1 as well.
