Why is the M1 Carbine such a POS ???

Matt,

I might be older than you are.....perhaps I had a head start?

David

If that is the case..... one day my guns will be your guns. "Perhaps"?

Carbine a POS ?????????????

From Bruce Canfield's book -" U.S.Infantry Weapons Of World II" -------------------------
"It seems that among WW II Veterans ,even those who used the weapon in actual combat situations, there was little middle ground regarding their opinion of the M1 carbine. They either loved it or hated it.----------------------------
----------------it should be remembered that the carbine was never intended to replace the rifle , but rather the pistol and submachine gun. Except for very close range situations in which the heavy .45 cal. slug offered greater stopping power , the carbine was a better all around performer than either . ------------As Combat veteran Lt. Col. John George ( Book, Shots Fired In Anger) pointed out , only a real expert ( a relatively rare creature) could accurately shoot a pistol, but almost anyone with even a modicum of training could effectively use the carbine. At ranges over 100 yards, the carbine was infinitely more effective than any submachine gun. "

Great snippit. I imagine the people who didn't like the rifle were using it outside it's intended use.

EXACT REASONING!

One expecting too much from it and exceeding the designed capabilities of the rifle and ammunition of its time.

Use the appropriate tool for the task at hand and you will be fine.

There are some rough looking stock in those pics.
I wish I could find the stock for my N.P.M, where-ever I put it. It has been lying around doing nothing for 25 years , hell my N.P.M has been doing nothing for 25 years (shot maybe 200 rounds through it after I unwrapped from the waxpaper).

Maybe I should sell my Choate Folder... :)
