Why is the SKS so coveted in Canada?

It's the wish. com gun of Canada. It's cheap, it's Chinese and it's ugly lol. And I refuse to own one.

The High Point 995TS is a cheap and ugly semi around the same price and no one really wants it but for some reason a rifle from 1000 years ago is "cool" and "you should get one". Talk about jumping off a bridge because your friends did it.

For many its the novelty factor. The combloc guns have character and provide a different shooting experience. Its like buying a old VW Beetle when in reality you could also buy a Kia Forte that that ultimately does most things better for a little extra money...

There is no comparison. One is a cheaply made simple blowback in a pistol calibre. The other is a locked-breach intermediate rifle calibre carbine that is cheaply priced.

bởi vì tôi có thể giấu nó trong một cái vại gạo trong rừng ba tháng mà nó vẫn hoạt động, chỉ cần hỏi Hồ Chí Minh

It won’t translate well but you’ll get it good enough lol

Some people with big budgets still prefer a kayak over a motorboat. Whatever blows your hair back. :) I don't think the SKS is a coveted gun or anything (by anyone I know) but they are fun to shoot. If it makes you feel any better, ask yourself what it would cost to make an SKS in 2020...then decide if the gun would hold more appeal if it cost you $1,000+.

Either way-buy one if you dig it, but don't judge them if you haven't fired one. Scratch that, don't judge them until you've fired one AND fired a NR modern semi in the $2,000+ range. Let me know if you think the modern semi is 10x more fun.

Pretty absurd to talk about budgets. Sure the gun enjoyed a low dollar investment to play but that doesn't make it bad in any way. I have guns worth more than some people's entire material wealth and I still enjoy shooting my SKS'.

That's probably me you are talking about. :) Not sorry other people have more money and can enjoy nicer guns than I have, it's up to each of us to make of life what we can. I have more guns than I need and like them all, so I feel rich enough.

My point was only that anyone who says the SKS is popular because it's cheap and so are lots of people are hardly correct. It's a very decent rifle and I enjoy it even compared to high end rifles. I definitely wasn't directing it at anyone in particular.
