Why is there no love for a 30-06 ar?

IMHO, owning both an AR and a Garand, there is no reason for an AR in 30-06. The Garand in miles ahead in terms of accuracy and above all RELIABILITY! I would bet my life on my Garand, not on my AR. The direct impingment gas design is a maintenance nightmare. The Garand is THE semi-auto 30-06 on ease of maintenance and reliability. Just my opinion and experience

Really? I got a piece of crap norinco that looks like it was dragged through a coal shaft. Still kickin' after 700 rounds of filth.

Mags also fall out with the push of a button. That's my zen right there compared to old rock and lock mags.

The "ping" is cool on the other hand.

Guess you should have bought a quality AR.

Yeah only running for a few thousand rounds without a squirt of lube is a real weak point. When is the last time you put a thousand rounds through a Garand without cleaning? ever?

And AKs suck so don't go there.

you need to carry twice as much ammo because its no where near effective as the .308 you need the follow up shots just to get someones attention lol:D
an AR in 762X39 would be awesome though :dancingbanana:

That post gave me the giggles.

But to answer the original post

Advances in powders during the late 1940s to early 1950s allowed for shorter casings while maintaining the same muzzle velocity: enter .308 / 7.62x51 (.308 and .03-06 use the same projectile too).

There are already .308 AR's around, so there is no practical use in having .30-06 AR's (except for the simple fact that people enjoy saying thirty ought six).
