Hey Guys,
I have some nice rifles with nice Bushnell scopes. However, I own a Simmons 8-point, mounted on a No4 LE. When I bore sight it, I cant adjust it low enough?? It runs out of adjustment. The optic only sits about a 1/2 inch above the barrel. What is going on with this scope?

Shim it... I just had to do that with my Bushnell 3200 Tactical that I put on an SPS.. It wouldnt go low enough.

The shims fixed it right up.

Just to be clear, take the scope off and shim under the rear base. You can use stainless shim stock or a few layers of aluminum cop can.

Probably a dumb question (and everyone else in the world knows) about this mount but, is it a one piece base or 2 pieces? If its 2 pieces, I'd be careful that shimming just one base doesn't tweak the scope tube. Hopefully its a one piece base so it moves at a unit and keeps both rings in line with each other.

Buy a piece of 1 inch drill rod or even a piece of 1 inch diameter cold rolled and use it with some valve grinding compound to lap the bottom rings in after you shim. You only need to lap them about 60% to get a good fit that will not dent or bend a scope.

When you say you cannot adjust your scope low enough, this means that the rifle would shoot high?
Shimming the rear base, elevating the rear end of the scope, would make the rifle shoot even higher.

Oh, ya sorry. I should have explained that a bit more. I think he means "pop" can as well.

I had to use 2-3 layers in order to get my scope to sit properly. But if it doesn't go low enough, don't you wanna shim the front? Doesn't the scope lens flip the image therefore you would want to shim the front or am I just an idiot?

Thats a good question.....when I say "wont adjust low enough", I mean the x-hairs. I cant get the x hairs to line up with my bore sighter mark. I run out of (-) elevation

Yes I did mean pop can:redface:You know how hard it is to type with 10 thumbs?
Go out and shoot it and see where it hits on the target. Forget the bore sighter, they are great for getting the windage right but don't count on them getting the elevation correct.

Yes, don't trust the bore sighter entirely. Start close with a large target and work your way out. Then see what it does at 100 yards and further for trajectory.
