How come people are posting SKS rifles in the EE for more money then the retailers are asking?? It seems like a pretty hurting affair if you ask me. I cannot wait until they cant be bought over then counter anymore, then ill post mine up for $750 lol

I'm thinking of selling a couple of mine. Was going to ask $205 - basically what I paid after taxes. Maybe a small premium for cleaning them. You figure that's too much?

i dont know what you were looking at but i saw about 20 SKS that wasnt dressed up for less than $250 .

only 2 sks that didnt come with any accessories were asking above $300 .

1 russian was for $300 and the other was a rare IZH import for $380 .

i also saw one that was completely chromed for $500 . interesting .

I got a MINT '54 Tula for $180 and there still 1 one left on the rack and people are asking $250 for the same gun. Just wondering why I or anybody else would pay that much plus shipping?

its great that you dont to pay shipping but majority of us do and if we paid $180 + tax+ shipping , then asking $250 isnt out of line , remember the $250 is only asking , we may break even at best .

we may break even at best .

Whats is this talk of "breaking even" on a used gun deal? I wish that concept applied to all second hand sales lol. I could list my new truck for 29998 with the terrible hassle of the first oil change being done and its only just broken in at 5100kms, breaking even right? I think that seeing as these guns are arsenal refurbished when up on the rack, its not fair to ask the same price or more as the dealers after you clean em out and run a few hundred rounds through them. Other milsurps like M1s and Enfields are a different story, you cant usually just go down to your local gun shop, throw some cash around and go home with one. With that being said you can expect the seller to set the price for such guns.

The two I'm going to sell have been cleaned, period. Never fired either of them. They can be pulle dfrom storage and taken directly to the range. Shipping to you would cost some $$, but locally I think its a good deal, unless you like slopping around in 40 year old Russian grease.

I paid 180+tax for mine, so just over 200 all in. 250 for a used one? Gimme a break

30min of work if you take your time

Lol break even. Its like we have some mini gun dealers here.

I should see if I can list my car for what I bought it for new with taxes and see if anyone appreciates the km I put on it as getting it worked in and getting rid of that pesky new car scent..

Breaking even..

Many guys selling their motorcycles are like that too. It's scary that many people are stupid enough to go for it. Close to retail for a 5yrold bike lol

I don't get it either. I find looking at the EE disappointing sometimes.

I can buy a brand new refurb still in cosmo for around $250 (retail+GST+shipping) from a site sponsor that has a good reputation. I know they will ship it well.

OR

I can get a SKS cleaned for $250 from the EE where a good reputation is difficult to determine. Sure they say they are unfired, but how much can be trusted.

I'll go for the retailer everytime on this deal. I would prefer a new refurb in cosmo to a cleaned SKS shipped from a site user. Exception would be someone here with a good rep.

The bottom line is, if someone is willing to pay it, then the price is justified.

Back when my wife was still in university and money was super super tight, I looked on here for an SKS for months at a price I could afford.

They've easily gone up 25 per cent since then, and that's since they started importing them in droves. It just doesn't make sense to me ...

there a cheap gun im thinking 100-150 bucks would be a good price to sell them for 2nd hand

are these not second hand to begin with? I watched a fellow who thought his sks was worth $175 couldn't get it ,the took it to a store and traded it in for $65 and was happy as he later said it was a problem child ? Maybe said it has problems to make himself fee better ?

I come from the RC hobby. The rule of thumb (and its a very loose generalization) is that your stuff drops %50 in value once its used. I dont agree with that entirely, but often its not far off.

Ive noticed with guns its totally different. I just saw a Savage .17 FV HMR sell for $310 shipped. Only upgrade was a $30 bi-pod. Same gun sells brand new for $280 plus tax. So, just over $310 taxes in. I was blown away that it sold so high. Same goes for SKS's. I cant imagine why someone would pay a premium for a used gun VS a "new" one from a store. But the truth is, market value has nothing to do with what WE think it should be. It has everything to do with what a willing seller will take a willing buyer will pay. Buyers who get all horny for a gun and overpay only skew the market value for that gun for the next buyer.

It is not just the SKS, I notice the pricing on the EE is nuts lately.

Pistols particularly are selling for damn near MSRP, sometimes more!

According to some sellers, you apparently save tax by purchasing a gun that has a few thousand rounds through it. That totally makes sense.

If something is used, its value should be reduced accordingly. You can't buy a SKS for $180 and sell it for $200 simply because it came to $250 after taxes and shipping... that just doesn't make sense. The value of the gun originally was $180, taxes and shipping are not "value" added so the value to me is $150 shipped tops. Thats what I can go to the local gun store and buy one NEW for.

This sort of mindset is in most sections of the EE. Why would I buy a used scope for $50 less than a new one from a stranger on CGN? The safer bet is to purchase new from a vendor where I will have warranty, less risk of being scammed and the product is NEW, I don't have to worry about someone else's poor gun smithing/jerry rigging or butter fingers.

Even the accessories section is getting stupid. People are selling used mags and parts that are priced at MSRP... as a small business owner this boggles my mind.

I find this annoying because when I see a title of something that interests me, I waste a click to find out that someone has priced their used pistol/rifle/shotgun/parts at or above MSRP. Lately I rarely find a good deal while trolling the EE, once in a while I find something reasonable and I buy right away (like yesterday) but again thats one in every 40 EE postings.

I paid 160$ for mine from cabelas (I did have to wait like 2-3 years for it :D )

But after I bubba;d the crap out of it it's probably only worth 60$ :)

If you've added a tapco stock, you can add the retail price of the SKS and the retail price of the stock, include a 20% margin for gross profit, then charge applicable tax for the materials and labour for the price on EEcou:
