Why isn't the 1911 trigger more common?

If the 1911 is so iconic and is used consistently by competitive shooters, why isn't the SA trigger system utilized in other designs? It's on the 1911 and 2011 but wouldn't there be a market if it was in other platforms like the Beretta 92FS (stylish), CZ (ergonomic), or Glock (lightweight)? I mean, wouldn't a ###y open-slide Beretta design with the grip of a CZ with the weight of a Glock frame plus 9mm double stack capacity sell like hot cakes? Add tactical rail, drop the grip safety and you'd have the best of all worlds.

What you are describing is pretty much the new Dan Wesson DWX, except for the polymer part. It’s a hybrid between a 1911 and a CZ (Dan Wesson is owned by CZ). I’m looking forward to being able to see one in person.

I’m not sure that a polymer frame is well suited to the 1911 trigger, with the trigger bow riding in a precision machined groove, etc. But I’m all for innovation and I’m a huge fan of the 1911 trigger - but who isn’t? Lol

"Who isn't?", you ask?

wow!!!

Thanks for pointing out the DWX! Looks very interesting though I wonder if the straight trigger face is as ergonomic as the curved 1911 triggers.

The Wilson EDC-X9 is really a combination of the 1911 trigger and safety on a grip that has the same angle as a Beretta 92FS rather than a true 1911.

Assuming we are discussing SA pistols vs the 1911 trigger, many competition guns are SA only. The real question is what competition are we talking about. When referencing Glock, CZ, Beretta I suspect you’re referring to action or dynamic shooting sportswhich many of the popular guns have evolved from service pistols. As opposed to modern ISSF target pistols which are purpose built SA target guns (example Pardini SP or site sponsor Tesro TS22 or PA10).

Yeah, good point! If they didn't cost $5000 Canadian, I'd probably already have an EDC-X9. It's a beautiful gun, like all Wilsons. I suspect the popularity of the EDC-X9 may have actually inspired DW/CZ to build the DWX.

Flat triggers are becoming somewhat popular on higher-end 1911s. I've never personally shot one, but the idea is that because of the slide trigger in a 1911 (as opposed to a swing trigger) the flat face give you a consistent feel and trigger pull no matter where your finger happens to hit the trigger face - touted as being ideal for shooting under pressure. i.e. action shooting games or, I suppose, defensive shooting for those who CC 1911 style pistols.

All of that said, I do wonder if DW plans to offer other triggers for the DWZ as time goes on?... Knowing DW, I'm sure there will be 2 or 3 different models out by next year; assuming sales of the DWX are strong this year.

That DWX Compact is beautiful! Too bad it’s a 4”. If it was a 4.25” I’d be putting money down now.

The full-size one the other hand seems to be beaten rather heavily with the ugly stick. Pass.

My question stemmed from my experience many years ago before I bought my CZ Shadow. I tried out a 40SW 1911, admitedly tricked out for IPSC, and I never forgot that trigger. It was awesome. Shooting my CZ in SA or my 22/45, it's not the same. Being at home so much had me thinking but I was thinking more of a general purpose pistol rather than competition only. Glock inspired many polymer framed striker-fired designs, you'd think that there would be more interpretations based around the 1911 trigger design.
