Why milsurps will be rarer in years to come.

Alright, question:
Why do they do this? Is there an organization paying them to have them destroyed?

Why wouldn't they just ship them off to Marstar or something for twice or three times the junk price? They'd make more money, and Marstar would be able to turn a cool profit from it all.

Unless the weapons have been proven unsafe to use, whats the point in destroying them like that?

Politics are the reason. If any of those weapons are used in crimes, or to arm unathourized groups the government organization that had seized and held them would be on the front page of every newspaper.

The RCMP destroy huge numbers of firearms every few months. For the same reason. Lots of 10/22 s with folding stocks, SKS with folding stocks, hunting rifles, pistols etc. All destroyed.

More than likely the "organization" is the U.N.. They are paying countries $$$ to destroy surplus firearms so they do not get on the civilian market.

i know i should be sad and all, but it's just toks and maks. really not a big loss. besides, it's not like arent tons of em around anyways

well, makarovs are pretty damn rare here, methinks. are they prohib? what country is this? serbia? i guess it is sort of understandable in that area of the world, having undergone genocide quite recently. but then it is also true that if they flood the civilian market, they could create a very large market and profit greatly.

I'm not sure where you shop but Russian Tokarevs are pretty rare in Canada. A lot of those were pre-1946 (note the coarse slide serrations) Russian TT-33s (IN COSMO) and certainly collector pieces.

I feel ill...:(

All happens in Estonia. How did you get that in Europe?

military junk is always thrown away for one reason only: they replace them with new ones.

It is hard if not impossible to explain the passion of collecting this "junk" to someone that is in the army for life - they do this for a living. Resembles trying to give a full range report about the new 338 LM loaded with scenars to an Inuit hunter. It just doesn' matter all that much for them.

they see them as inadequate for current use. We had some horrible handguns in the army and all officers complained about them. Took them 40 years to change them. Some Jericho were on the way and I saw most of them throwing their TTs around with dismay. Who would want something that is that useless? the opportunity of delivering those firearms to others never really popped in their minds. They wanted them crushed so noone would have the idea that the new pistols were too expensive or... whatever and issue them again.

Odd... Having owned many TT's, I felt they were one of the most reliable service pistols ever made. True, it lacks finess and it really a peasant blaster, but it went bang every time.

Of course, you had to carry it unloaded and rack the slide before use else you risked shooting yourself in the foot... by I only used them at the range... err... yeah...

so why would you want to replace them again?

Now as for the Makarov... why crush those? Still in issue all over europe and much safer and faster to bring into action than a TT...

Most police forces carry glocks up there.
Military personnel feel undergunned with anything less.
Add this to the overstocking problem (huge warehouses or armament left from mother russia) and you.ve got the answer.

Regading the TT.... We've had complaints form the people (police) that actually go to shoot them against moving targets  - that the round was not effective at all. 9mm seemed like a good choice then.

But do not forget that people in Europe are easily put down by a 9mm, unlike North American counterparts that require .45.

Maybe they just want to use the "rinco 1911 from now on.....:p
