Why no AR lookalike stock for the 10/22?

Is this a legal issue, or technological/manufacturing? Looking at the response to the upcoming Colt Tactical .22 there would seem to be a market for something rimfire that really looks like an AR. There are lots of pistol gripped stocks available, but there is no way any of them could be mistaken for an actual AR IMO. And if a 10/22 can be made into a nice looking SL8, Tommy Gun etc. then this would lead me to believe it should be technically possible.

Granted I have no experience in plastics, manufacturing, converting or the legalities of an AR lookalike stock so it simply might not be possible, but I am curious if it's ever been attempted, and if not...why?

That's getting close faswagon, but it's still not where I'd like it to be. The sides are basically just flat, the magwell has no taper...things like that still keep it from looking like an actual AR.

Maybe it's just too expensive or difficult to mold those kinds of features in. I dunno. {shrug}

There are AR stocks for the 10/22, they except AR parts. What's wrong with them?
A 10/22 will never look like the firearm you try to make it depict. There will always be noticeable differences.

I get you Harv. the Nordic one is close, and does accept AR parts. But it will never be mistaken for a real AR. I've played with the idea of getting an AR mag, gutting it and making a shroud for the little banana mag, just to look a little nicer.... but I've not had the time to get into it

Exactly faswagon. Don't get me wrong, I love your Nordic and that would be the way I'd go were I doing it today, but I keep hoping a stock will come out that has some more AR looking "features" molded into it, and would have tapered AR style handguards to boot.

The modded mag idea should be (relatively) easy to do, provided 10 rounds are enough. Looking at the rotary mags or 10rd bananas there appears to be enough material there that a bit of an appendage could be attached, whether it be a fake drum or stick for a Tommy Gun or 20 round AR mag.

Too bad Black Dog Machine doesn't make a version of their full-body 27-round 22LR magazine to fit the Ruger 10/22...

Doesn't seem like it would take too much design work to adapt it.

Would make faux AR-15's built from Ruger 10/22s look a lot more like the real thing.

Sorry, I was having a bad day.
If I remember correctly, 10/22 magazines are too thick to fit in a normal sized AR magazine.

Just something I recall hearing, have no idea for sure.

Is the AR's look a protected industrial design or copyright held by someone? Or is it in public domain? Do companies like Bushmaster have to pay a royalty to someone for making an AR? Just wondering if that prevents making a replica in any way?
