There’s people who truly believe they need 100 different guns to put holes in paper when 5 would suffice for everything from 25-2500 yards. Or 50 different guns to hunt when realistically 5 guns would cover every possible animal and scenario they’ll ever hunt.
Look at hunting for example. A 12 gauge pump with both smooth and rifled barrels, a 22lr, .223, 6.5mm and. 30-06 has you covered for every animal in North America. Really, you could get by with just the 12g and 30-06, but that’s no fun now is it?
It’s funny how marketing over the years has convinced most that we need so much different equipment. It works to get our money….

I run everything from a 5.56, 25-06, 270 Win, 270 Weatherby Mag, 308 Win, 300 H&H to a 300 Weatherby mag.
I shoot all of them well.
No candy-assed young-in will ever convince me that the 308 is "all I need". Period.
Each has their place in the field, and each shine at the tasks they are presented with.

I use the 556 for everything from fire ants to polar bears. According to the internet, this military round is so powerful it will blow the lungs out of a human. Also I'm currently typing this from inside a Grizzly bear's stomach, but as soon as reload I'm shooting an entrance sized hole in him and walking out.
Out of our hunting crew, we never lost any game.
We had a couple long tracks with deer and one guys 243 shooting 95gr BT's. All good shots in the boiler room, lungs, heart, damaged really good, they still ran a good 100m into bush, problem was no blood trails.
Generally the 95-100gr 243 will exit on deer and you get a good trail if they run, couple times they didn't was when it became a search.
Most times they fall over, but nothing is guaranteed when hunting.
Larger cals at least get some blood trails from entrance, and more certain to exit, velocity depending of course.

I seldom think that people over 100 guns are doing it because they don’t know what they are doing. I tend to default over to they know actually what they are doing. Benefit of the doubt sort of thing.

Been thru the magnumitis stuff, still have a couple, only really newish cartridges I have are 6.5CM and a 30R blaser. Worst thing is deciding what gun to take out on any given day, they will all do what needs doing. My problem is I take a liking to a gun, cartridge is secondary, as long as it's suitable for the purpose I want the gun for. The older ones, x57 & -06 size and magnum cases and NE cases will all do the job, the 308case sized stuff is all a person really needs for most stuff, and they are nicer to shoot year round.
