Why Russian SKS ( SImonov ) better than Chinese SKS

Ah... The difference... It's "The Original"... It's a piece of "Cold War History"...

I've owned both, but the one that stayed was the Russian!

Cheers

I'm looking to get my hands on my first SKS as well.

Which variants of the SKS to look for in terms of chrome-lined barrel?

It is personal preference as well, if you dont mind the Chinese not having the same history as the Russian SKS then buy the Chinese. I personally wanted the history as well as I felt the Chinese SKS felt more like a toy while the Russian had more "girth" felt more like a real gun. I am not saying there is anything wrong with either one, both performed extremely well, it all depends on how much you want to spend, if you care about the feel of it, or if you care about the history. There are more factors but those where the main ones I took into consideration when I purchased mine.

As soon as you pick them up you can tell the quality difference, the Russians are so well made, beautiful rifles. I made the mistake of owning a Russian first then getting a Chinese.....price wise the you have to pay a little more for the Russian but it is well worth it!

Any of them with a chrome lined barrel, the Russian IZH models have been put on a pedistole but I found that out of the many I have had the Russian Tula Refurbs were the best as far as function would go & seemed to be a better SKS so to speak, (Thats only my opinion based on the ones I actually had)!!!!!!

My Factory 26 SKS is as nicely finished and as good quality as any Russian SKS I've seen.

It's far "better" than these refurbs on the market now.

Where is my early refurbed 1951 Tula in all of This?

agreed , my early chinese .

My rifle is not not chrome lined but appears well made. So?

I have both, my chinese one is more accurate, I suspect due to the better trigger. The trigger on my russian is especially bad, but I'm sure the chinese sks's have their fair share of bad triggers too.
