Why SKS are getting Rare?

The nice ones are getting rare that's not a lie. The good stock is dwindling expect grade 2 and 3 and ..... Who knows

Canadian Tire is your best bet. They are more FUDD oriented and are not drawing a large crowd of shooter types. My local CT has them at 149 and there is always 3 in stock.

I got nice ones from CTC, I think we are getting to the point of saturation in the market for SKS, Most people who want 1 or more already have them or are being particular over what they want and how much they will pay! I think they will always sell as more people come into the market but at a slower rate!! I got mosins for $109 and will pay $150 for SKS now! When they run out, they run out! I will be searching for a crate of them soon, if the price is right!! I think $130 or less per rifle would work seeing as it would be a bulk buy!

did you ask your CT if they will order you a crate?

As far as numbers and current availability they are not rare.

Will Soviet Russian supplies start to dwindle? Yes - probably sooner than later due to politics with Russia and the Ukraine.

Will Chinese commercial or military variants replace SKS's on shelves? Yes.

There will be an increased demand for Soviet SKS's but a demand doesn't necessarily mean rarity but it does effect price and readability.

It cracks me up when I see people trying to charge stupid money for an SKS when you pick them up in CT for almost half what some people are trying to charge in the EE,its a fecking SKS FFS,they are plentiful for less than $200.

Where can buy an sks-d or sks-m that takes ak mags?

If you get through the door of a gun show in the first hour or so you can often scoop up the one or two present for $600 +

Sure, it'll be beat to sh!t and the barrel will be burned down to a rusted out smooth bore, but hey! AK mags!

Don't bother. For one, they're actually all commercial variants of the SKS that Norinco made to fill a demand for the US market, and when Clinton shut them out, they dumped the excess production on NZ and Canada.

For another - DuckBill mags for standard SKS's are far easier to come by in Canada. They're all limited to 5 rounds, so who cares anyway?

You must only be seeing the super sniper tapco stocked variants that came from the Russian factory in '48. These were only produced for two months post war. Buyer beware though, there are many who try to build fake versions of the super sniper variants and charge high $ on the ee for them. They did another secret run in '58 with ATI stocks and a new technology for the time, lazers. Unscrupulous folks also try to replicate these rare firearms as well and charge lots of money for them.

The SKS will never be "rare".

This.
You would have to reinvent the word rare to apply to SKSs. There are frikken millions of them. At some time in the future, the imports will dry up. Then there will only be MILLIONS of them floating around here in Canada. When you can still buy them by the case lot for about $175 each, that is not rare.

Yes overall the SKS is not rare. But there are certain types, Dates and factories that are within those many SKS's that are rare...

I travel for work and I have been into Can. Tire stores all over the interior of BC and I have yet to find a CT that sells real firearms. Most of the LGS that I get into have beat up pieces of crap going for $219-$260 each. I wish one of the local CT's would grab a set and have the intestinal fortitude to start selling guns.

Go east young man, where we are afloat with them (and enjoying it) Here in Halifax prices are high still at $199. but in New Brunswick/ western N.S. and parts of Ontario, the prices are as low as $140. and average somewhere around $169.!

Also, the quality has seemed to have gone down more in the last shipments. Previously Westrifle had all matching, non refurb'd rifles selling for 220.00 shipped to your door. And are now selling heavily refurb'd, polished boltcarrier's that have been re stamped, and re stamped stocks for 250-290 as numbers matching. As well, Trade-ex is out of the Non refurb'd rifles as is weimajack. The juicy ones we were buying for cheaper than the not so pretty ones we are seeing now. Not saying that these are not great to grab and blast away with, they are just not the beauties we were seeing last year at this time..
