Why so little aftermarket stuff for browning a-bolt?

while they are decent guns, they just dont seem to hold their own in the precission world, savage, remmington, and some tikka seem to be the big players for build platforms with out goin full out custom builds...
guns are sort of like cars, the market will cater to the popular brands. theres some great cars out there with little to no demand for aftermarket parts , so its not proffitable to produce parts for them.
from what i recall reading, the brownings take alot of work by a smit to get them onto par with savage/remmingtons, so for the average joe putting money into a rifle, its not worth the $ one would need to invest to get it to the same end product that can be had for 1/2 the price

Simple answer: Remington 700, around half of what is available is for Rem 700 or compatible actions.
Up to the early 90s, Remington where high quality rifles, today they're still very accurate, durable and strong but the quality is more iffy.
Many shooters rave about Savage, Sako and Tikka but a Rem 700 is still an extremely capable and versatile rifle.

Browning makes a very nice hunting rifle. Their action design has never won great favour with precision shooters or their gunsmiths. Brownings shoot very well out of the box, and for their stated purposes, they don't need much.

I had a Browning A Bolt Target model that I could do nothing with. So I sold it and kept a Savage in the same caliber.
Browning are not know for precision so they aren't poular for such. So no one makes stuff for them. Can't spin a barrel off too easily without potential consequences. Lock tited in place.

My experience with one Browning A-Bolt is that it does just fine hunting and that is the niche Browning was designing it for. Precision rifles is simply too small a market for Browning to make money on.

The sub 3/4" group I shot signting my brother's A-Bolt SS 30-06 (not a precision rifle, I know) has me copnvinced that they're at least as good, if nto better than, the M700. But the M700 is the 350 Chev of the rifle world. Easy to make, easy to work on, why not sell whiz-bang gadgets for it? People lap it up.
My best shooting factory rifle is a Browning, not fussy on handloads or factory ammo. I have a Rem. 700 that shoots almost as well but took couple of hundred handloads to find a load that shot well. Guess as others have said they are just not mod. friendly
...actually, you are exactly right. They shoot very well, and Browning is making a precision rifle for target shooting.
They as nice a hunting rifle as you will find, and they don't need anything except your choice of caliber and optics.
...Pickup trucks are not designed for Formula 1 and Brownings are not designed to be made into F-Class, "sniper" or TR rifles. That does not mean they are not accurate, they re exceptional for their intended purpose.
If Remington WANTED you to build target rifles off their actions, they would sell action on their own. Not even Remington endorses the conversion of their guns to precision rifles, they just happen to work well for that purpose. Savage obviously thinks otherwise and makes a mix/match rifle with that in mind.

Savage is cheap out-of-the-box.
Remington 700 has been over-done to death.
Tikka is a new fad, IMO.
No one really thinks of your A-Bolt as a "sniper", I suppose (it is a mighty fine rifle I may add!)
In any case, either McMillan (I'd avoid), or ... Allen Gun Works??? I think??? One of our sponsors makes custom stock to your action, at a significant price cheaper than an McM after the duties and brokerage.
I'll add that if your gun is a lefty, these are essentially the only two sources to get a stock from... Well, without some serious hacking.
I had the EGW aluminum mount, and loved it so much, got a custom left-handed steel version cut out for me. For a while, I was the only dude in Canada with one of these, I gathered. Came out cheaper than anything in Canada, and superior to the NightForce stuff - that should give you an idea how good it is.

McMillan does have a stock but the only cheek piece you can get is saddle style. I am not a fan so I will pass and stick with the factory thumb hole stock which is actually pretty nice. I picked up a Near 20moa base and 3 ring alpha rings for it and I am getting the action bedded along with a trigger spring kit (hope it helps). The thing is already very accurate so with these mods and some hand loads it should be very, very accurate.
