Why so much hate on the savage 64!

Also, the 64 was the last design made by the Cooey company. When Winchester bought Cooey they decided to let the 64 run into production as it was an alternative competitor to the Ruger 10-22 and Marlin semi.

I had the TR SR ( same gun minus different stock ) and well the 64 design isn't the best. To remove the bolt you need to remove the barrel. The finish on them was very rough, Bluing was lacking, Also I didn't find it that accurate.

The 10/22s especially the takedowns with that persnickety adjustment ring are nothing to write home about in the accuracy department either.
But if you're going to shoot 'so-so' groups you might as well do it with a 10/22 all dolled up with tacti-cool accessories.
Albeit the non-takedown version heavy barrel target 10/22 models with the target trigger are pretty accurate.

I have a 10/22 with a modular stock and heavy barrel (takedown) that my son with grand-dads old cooey can outshoot at 25 yards.
Over $700 and will be going on the used gun rack at a lgs near me soon.
