Why some folks hunt wolves.

Xylitol is deadly to them, pick some up at the local health food place and bait them.

Just make sure your dog or some one else's doesn't get at it.

In Bulk Barn the other day. They sell it by the Kilo, there was a don't feed it to your pets warning though.

Wow, being a huge dog lover that's a tough vid to watch. I've 3 Tornjaks so the chances of a pack of wolves taking out my dogs are slim, but still gives me pause. Coyotes however, have never even tried for even one of my pups.

I have a Tornjak as well. Beautiful dog, loves everyone on the farm. Anything outside the fence, stays outside the fence.

I have lost a few dogs over the years to wolves, not a pretty sight. My dog will not go off the deck when she detects any wolves around. I will go around and pee on any place that they mark. I have had them $hit on places where I pee. very ballsey wolves. This is in my yard about 50 ft. from the house.I used to hunt/shoot on full moon nights, and before I get flamed about shooting at night,it was legal and safe. I am on private property ( mine ) with no other buildings for a few miles. Put out a gut pile sight in the rifle on the pile and wait.It was very productive and money from the hides would heat my house for the year.

Coyotes have done that to me here on a regular basis
Cheers

These days I see a lot of central asian shepards and crosses gaining popularity. Hopefully, they eclipse the native breeds.

im from that part of the world so the reasons i know them. tornjak is the nicest with humane: the charplaninatz deals with his owner master that it is.

look up for pike collars in kosovo, bosnia and albania and you will see how the wolves are avoiding them lol ...

Well this video certainly triggered an emotional response from CGN. Wolves should be targeted just because of a facebook video. They should be hunted when they start to decimate elk herds, deer and moose and things become unbalanced. These wolves might be in balanced ecosystem and are just doing natural things like killing off the competitor.

You're really over simplifying this situation.

no wolves around my acreage, but coyotes are fair game.

have 2 small dogs and they don't go outside the 6' chain link without a leash.

lots of coyote sign in the back yard, and there is the constant marking of territory between my dogs and the coyotes.

shortly after we moved in a coyote was going to cross the back yard until my slightly bigger dog saw it and started barking the yote turned around and made a dash for the tree line, little dog may only be 20Lbs but has a big bark for his size, some nights he gets into howling bask at the coyotes. The other dog is just yappy.

The coyotes now know to stick to the tree line while there is shooting light, max 100m from my back door to the back corner of the lot.

Your read I suppose.

I see it as a thread discussing personal and property defence. If you don't defend what's yours, what you love, maybe you won't get it.

I think he is responding to an oversimplification here on these pages: Wolves bad. Us good. Kill 'em all.

He definitely is..... with one of his own. A backyard isn't exactly natural wolf habitat, nor a domestic dog normal prey.

they all have the same ancesters.

if you look up they all look very similar. the montagne des pyrenees is a very good example as well but because he was used a lot for show or family has lost a lot of guard side but seems some breeders are doing what they have done in the past.

guarding.

for a sheep dog you need to have the dog thinking they are sheep so they need to be born in a barn and live among sheep which was lost except in central asia and little part of some mountains in central europ now the wolf and bear are back in north america as well the breeders need to learn what to do. and like taurkon you need a pack of them.

well the balance is in favor of the wolf as of today .... there is more and more of them everywhere.

tornjak or charplaninatz (or any sheepdog with still the anti wolves genes) are well known and you do not mess with them. a pack is great idea.

My buddy has a couple livestock guardian dogs, his Akbash loves to shred coyotes lol. He brings the two to work and they keep bears off the cut block like you wouldn’t believe, awesome dogs. At home they’re the sweetest dogs with kids and people in general.

I've got a bernese mountain dog and a great pyrenees. They both love chewing on coyotes but haven't had a run in with the local wolves yet. I'm actually more concerned about the cougar that comes through every few months.

Cougars have been known to grab little Fido right off the deck , in acreages. Couple of human encounters in Canmore, where someone was out walking the dog and a cougar saw Dinner. :)

No I see it as an efficient apex predator killing off competition on his property, its actually quite remarkable to catch it on film ....nothing to do with love and defense.

Whoa that was full on... they didnt stop for nothing.

hmm... unreal, proper predators, unlike here. our dingo is so scared of people

Cougars cause me concern more than any other predator other than brown bears, and I'd say a brown bear and cougar are a tie.
