Why take so long???

I recently got my restricted and purchased my first handgun, after waiting 3 weeks for the transfer to go through I brought home my new purchase (last Sunday, transfer complete Friday before) and after another 5 business days I still can't legally transport because I don't have my registration paperwork.... I'm trying to get as much time in before I start competing in IDPA

So WTF, 3 weeks for transfer followed by amother 2 for paperwork to arrive... can't just be me right?!
 
It depends where you live. In Alberta my transfer papers usually arrive at about the same time as my firearms if I ordered from an Ontario dealer.
 
If you're in Ontario, 3 weeks may be considered quick! The Reg papers usually takes 10-14 days after the Transfer. So you are actually on schedule.
The CFO: one customer at a time and today's not your time!
What gun did you buy?

I just did 2 deals. One was a buy and the other a sell. Both Transfers arrived the next day. I'm in BC.
 
I've always requested an email transfer notification, atleast then I can take the gun home/get it shipped/etc..

Email often arrived a day or two after I called the RCMP to complete the transfer.
 
I purchased from an Ontario retailer from Alberta 2 separate times, both took over 2 weeks for paperwork to arrive after I received my delivery, seems to vary for everyone.

First purchase is a GSG 1911, something I could practice bolstering before I decided which platform to go with for IDPA

Transfer was completed, its in my safe now but it's not going anywhere from there right now
 
Overwhelmingly, at least in BC, the most common semi- autos in IDPA are 1911s in 9mm/.45, Glocks, CZ-75 and variants, S&W M&P and increasingly, the SIG 320. In revolver, the S&W 5/686 and the Ruger GP.

This should help narrow your choices. Enjoy the GSG.
 
Wow, glad I don't live in Onterrible, my last two transfers in BC have been done within 24 hours , registrations have taken less than two weeks to arrive . Congrats on the GSG, great gun and a lot of fun :)

Maybe they are swamped registering 0% AR aluminum blocks. :p

They have to be up to something.

Waiting on May 10th transfer fron Ontario retailer (39 days +) and the last transfer I waited from April 24 to June 5th (42 days).

Speaking of which it has been since June 5th and still no Reg papers for that one so it can't go anywhere fun in case there is a 'Ihre Papiere, Bitte!' incident

Only two people doing the transfers here in Ontario. I got mine done it two business days because I politely emailed them with all the needed info I guess. (That was on the May 24th long weekend too.)

Holy crrap! I probably won't see my 686 'til end of August at that rate.
