no i didn't shoot it , it was roadkill . Slightly over 1700 km round trip , spent 27 hrs in the truck before we got back to a motel :kickInTheNuts:. Next time I'm going with an outfitter .

Did enjoy all the scenery though :)

I think I will only use an outfitter if I have too, however they are of some value if you cannot scout an area ahead of time...Vacation time is precious...

No chainsaw or axe to cut logs to bridge washout? A good chainsaw, axe and bucksaw always accompany us on hunting trips, along with several rolls of rope and twine for lashing. Hammer, nails, screws always in the toolbox. We usually take along a few 2X4 or 2X3 for mocking up a cook shelter using clear plastic as well. Sucks that your trip was derailed.

Had all aformentioned tool's , was not a whole lot of timber we were a way's into that cut block & the spruce before that was pretty small . We were not even certain if we were on the the right trail as niether of us had ever been there . So with the odds against us we said screw it .

It was a learning experience

A neighbour of mine few houses away has one of those trucks, those things are just massive! I have never seen it moved and have always wondered if his needed fixing or something, its in good condition though.

As for the outfitter I have never been one to enjoy random company for some reason. I'm sure there are real great/nice/cool outfitters but with my luck I would get that old guy behind the counter of the sporting/hunting/firearm shop that nobody likes.

Welcome to hunting. I can garantee you drove by some prime bear hunting. Trips like you just had are how you start to learn. If you just give up and get an outfitter you will never become much of a hunter. A good customer yes, a good hunter, no.

We did see 5 bear the first evening 2 of them were 250 + the other three were quite small . We got out & found a hotel by 6 am & set our alarm for 11am so we could get back in & do some fishing .

We drove back in 50 km's to a nice lake we had seen to do some fishing . when we unloaded our boat I noticed the rack was busted .

We decided to do some fishing since we were already there . It was cold though & my buddy cought one little pike I cought nothing .

So we decided to load back up & head back to town before 5 to try & get the trailer fixed usde every ratchet strap we had to sinch it down , otherwise we would have tried to go back in a little deeper to see if we could not cross paths with a few more blackies .

Got back to town around quarter to 5 nobody would patch us up till the next day . By the we'd had enough so we decided to pack it in the next morning .
Our bear tag's are good for all zones & the fishing was crap .

Gonna try to set out some bait this weekend and see if there are any around my deer stand .

Ouch,

You guys driving alittle town car, import? Break out the tools and you could have filled it up or broken down those steep banks enough to get a good 4x4 through...

Thats why I bought one of these:

(Not mine, but an idea of what there capable of:)

Funny choice of video because it looks like he got stuck a couple times, and they "Edited" around the fact.

That said, they are great vehicles. We used them in Zambia to transport large animals, and track them down too. Plus the backs are modular, and we could turn it to a camper, scouting deck, cargo box, etc...

We had buddy's 05 chev 1500 hd 4x4 loaded with trailer 12 aluminum boat on top & Atv parked underneath , should have taken a picture when it was all loaded . I'll ask my freind if he took one .

In hind sight we should have left the trailer in town kept the motel room & taken advantage of the bear hunting .

beautiful area , a road trip is hard to pass up, cause of all the beauty.
If after a bear, just pick a spot to watch, those long roads .
Perfect to call one on the road, do any ?, or just road hunting.?
What would a guide changed, ? maybe hold you back some, to see if bears would come up, to a bait, or well known active area.
What I tell folks, just pretend your hunting at home, its a bit different:D still fun to be out this time of year in Canada's beauty...eh!

No we didn't get any hunting done we should have left the trailer in town & gone back to do some . we saw 5 bear the first evening a couple were pretty decent . But like you said just enjoying the scenery made it worth while . Think I'm gonna go east sometime this summer & try another place .

This is what hunting is all about .Every time I go out I don't come home with an animal .Or see the one that I would like to take home with me. It's all what you make it. You might not always have the perfect trip, but you make the best of what you have.
