Just as the title says why vortex? Everyone seems to always have them but also always selling them so are they actually that good?

List your pros and cons.

Any opinions welcome just a fun post. Have never actually had one.

I don’t have much experience with them but had a few, I prefer Leupold! Vortex are heavy and bulky, so not my cup of tea! The warranty is supposed to be awesome! I do have a pair of there bino and like them!

Vortex diamondbacks punch above their weight. I honestly think they are a lot better than many old scopes guys will pay good money for (b&L comes to mind)

Love my vortex strike Eagle. Used it to great effect out to 1500 meters so far.

Who else sells a 5-25x56, FFP, Illuminated resticle, 34mm tube, locking turrets, long range optic for $1000?

Marketing mainly is what I would say. They have done an amazing job of branding and product placement / awareness.

Most of their products are good for the price range they are in, and their warranty makes everyone feel warm and fuzzy because you bought a scope for a lifetime. It breaks, you get a new one.

I have used Vortex in the past and most likely will again in the future, personally on some certain optics I am not really keen on using warranty... I just don't want it to break in the first place. Like pistol optics, all well and good getting the new optic but in the middle of a match if it dies I am not to happy so I opted out there for Trijicon. Pinched the pennies and got an SRO.

Same goes for any Precision optics, I would rather be certain that it won't fail me when I need it the most than know if it does I get a new one.

Plinking .22s or some fart around guns why not, I would get a Vortex in a heart beat.

At this time I won’t touch one, I know to many guys that had failures and had to send them in, not a situation I want to find myself in on a hunting trip.

Which Vortex? There are many who slam $400 Vortex optics. Not many who slam the $4000 ones. If Athlon, Arken, and Apex were in every store they would sell more products.

I am happy to say I dont own a single vortex optic. Their Razor MkII and MkIII scopes are good but for $3500 I'll take any of the competitors over them. They are heavy and bulky for sure. Everyone raves about the warranty, sure I've used it before. But I have never used the warranty on a Burris, Steiner, Nightforce or Kahles. nothing worse than being in the middle of nowhere and your scope fails.

Warranty does me absolutely no good if it fails while I'm on a hunt I planned and saved for all year.

Vortex are trash, plain and simple.

I have no experience with their high end scopes. But their crossfire II and Diamondback series have a wide selection, good lifetime warrenty and at reasonable prices. I have friends with both crossfire II and the Diamondback series and they are good kit for the money spent. Personally prefer the leupold freedom line. Made in USA instead of China and I find their glass to produce a clearer image, and in general performs better in low light situations. But if one doesn't care about where things are made you really can't go wrong with a vortex scope in the under 600$ dollar category.

I know someone who bought a Vortex Viper for his hunting rifle, we got it zeroed in at the range, and then after about a box and half through it, it wouldn't take any elevation adjustments. Maybe just bad luck? I have one of their reflex sights on a handgun, and it works okay.

Vortex has good marketing. Look at all the out door and hunting shows that you see there products in. Vortex products are in almost every gun store more than any other brand. They also have price points for evert consumer. I have had 3 Vortex scopes fail on me they arnt worth the buy for me but everyone has an opinion and brands they favor.

A 'Warranty' won't compensate for missing A Competition, A Hunt, A Beautiful Day at the Range, and Definitely NOT Compensate for LOST TIME !! It IS good for getting ANOTHER POS !!
