Why We Can Still Own the AR-15.

Man, I am not done yet!

The reason the politicians listened to DCRA because it was legislated to existence by the government. It's mandate was endorsed by the government for over 130 years.

The DCRA is part of the larger part of the defence establishment - like the transcript said, it is one of the apparatus that maintains certain minimum military skills among the civilian population - it serves as bridge between the military and the civilian population in retaining the skillset during peace time.

At the end of the day, it is not NFA, CSSA or some NRA that can come out and thump their chest to legitimize the right to practice and possess military rifles - because this job had been given to the DCRA by the Queen 130 odd years ago. It is the word of some retired general and Lt.Col, that rings the seriousness of the business of DCRA - to maintain a level of readiness in civil defence. - not plinking, self defence, collecting...etc.

And the significance of DCRA - it reminds the government the needs to keep arms and the skill of arms among civilian population. And the government estalished it 130 years ago just to do this job.

Makes me sick that the DCRA had to , in effect, beg to have the AR "deprohibited" (I think I just invented a word :) )

Its even more sicking since I just finished re-reading "Unintended Consequences"

Craig

Makes you sick? I'm actually quite pleased that a properly organized group was able to articulate and present a legitimate argument to Parliament... and they were heard!

Without the DCRA you would not have an AR or be allowed to shoot on some military ranges. I support all orgs that go to bat for gun owners regardless of how they do it. DCRA membership is mandatory at our club and I have yet to hear anyone #####ing about the cost.

So quit looking at yourselves in the mirrors wearing your plate carrier rigs... Put down that Colt, DLask, LMT, Knights or whatever fancy bling black rifle you set up and prep that boomstick for your PRA's Service Rifle matches this spring. Get those rifles dirty and use them for how they were designed. :D

Come on out to my/our Service Rifle matches!! Improve your shooting skills and you won't have much need for all those cheese grater rails on yer black boomstick... :D

As much as it is a good concept, I find it hard to believe a Lib could possibly...in a million years...find a legitimate purpose in learning how to shoot. How long will it last?

Thanks! It's all about the money for me. As soon as I can I will be joining and buying an AR. For now I plink with my SKS with a Tapco stock and crates of surplus ammo. :)

FYI - For those who dont like the DCRA -- form you own CANADA WIDE association, with legitimate rules, and a credible reason that may help the CF, RCMP or other gov entity.

Frankly due to the ghey mag laws, and range rules, I don't see anything else being very valid.

For anyone who is interested in joining the BCRA pm me your email address and I will send you the 2009 form. The fee schedule has changed slightly from 2008.

Westicle,
As a first time member you will need the $30 BCRA New member membership and also at minimum the $25 DCRA conjoint membership for $55 total for the year.

For existing members you will need the $50 Full BCRA membership and also at minimum the $25 DCRA conjoint membership for $75 total for the year.

Come give it a try, I bet you will like it.

Thanks Mike. The BCRA is an inspiration. Service Rifle, Tactical Rifle, these guys have it all.

More of this please!

ANY OTHER PRA/DCRA REPS, PLEASE SPEAK UP!

The DCRA is run by those that show up and vote.
Those that show up are by and large, old timers that gave up on SR years ago, and are now shooting the TR and F-class disciplines because it keeps them shooting.
I would recommend Service Rifle shooters unite and change the organization from within...If someone doesn't care for the exposure of service rifle within the DCRA and feel it takes the back seat to TR and F-class....It's because they are right.
If they feel it requires change, they need to step up as a group and change it.
The change they effected with C-68 only stemmed the tide. I'm not so sure they will show up and fight for the AR when the next round comes.

It should have been a gimme in C-68 that the current and all past service rifles of the CF would be _exempt_ from being restricted or prohibited. Any Canadian citizen should be allowed to own one. Period.

I'm not trying to kack on the DCRA at all, I'm kacking on the idiot politicos.

Craig

PS- Serving member of the Reserves here ..... and like KevinB said, we don't shoot anywhere near enough per year.

We are working very hard out here to turn the BCRA into a strong viable association that is of use to the Canadian Forces. The way to maintain our relevance is through our service conditions programs and the adaptation and evolution of the matches and courses of fire. It is in the best interests of all PRA's across the country to do the same. This is what will ensure our survival as owners of fireams besides the basic hunting rifles. The larger these associations become the more clout we will have when we need it most.

Conscription. Liberal conscription and deployment as peace keepers.;)

I bet they would be a lot less "cuddles and hugs" after their contact with reality.
