Why wouldnt someone ELSE make a mag for a 7.62 XCR?

I just dont get it, everyone and their mother makes mags for the AR-15 in .223... but theres only what, 3 companies that make them in 7.62? I have seen (though rare) AR uppers in 7.62 and obviously the XCR is pretty popular here in canada... why would a company like, say, Alberta Tactical, make a polymer 10/20 round XCR Pistol mag?

I think that would be one hot product. Id buy about 10 right off the bat. And im sure every 7.62 XCR owner would buy a handful as well... maybe even bump the sales of the gun knowing there ARE actually mags available.

Just a small rant and question. Seems like a hole in the market.

Because .223 mags sell in the thousands because theres tens of thousands of guns that use those mags and maybe 200-300 guns that take 7.62x39 mags so why bother.

the Ar and M16 in 5.56/.223 have been around for about 50 years at this point on the civilian market. There have been multiple millions produced and many more times that available magazines . Most of the US does not face our unique mag restrictions and can use a regular capacity AR mag so it comes down to Canadian market share which is minor compared to the US market, and even smaller on a newly released pistol/ rifle like the xcr .

And yet Alberta Tactical had special 10/20 mags marked for a pistol to satisfy our small canadian market. There cant be THAT much difference between a .223 and 7.62 mag (only the follower and feed lips I would guess). Seems like its a more specialty type product that needs someone to satisfy its opening in the market.

I think the lack of supply is what is bothering the OP. That and the length.

I don't think there's a single retailer in Canada that has the XCR-L 7.62x39 magazines in stock at the moment.

I ended up solving the problem with GSdesigns mag extensions. Same dimensions as a 20 round once its installed. Seems like a fine solution for now. They are excellent quality and plenty strong.

Not really an issue anymore as I sold my 7.62 setup...

We had magazines made to fit a gun we make. If we were ever to make a gun in 7.62x39 , which in incredibly unlikely, we would then consider having mags made for it.

The investment in molds is SIGNIFICANT so to make up molds for another manufacturer's gun that even they barely support
there just is not nearly enough market to support the expense of making them, makes poor business sense.

ATR: I intend to buy a few of your AT15 mags when you get more. They are an excellent idea and I can see having quite a few (if theres a pre-order list, id like to be on it). But I think now that you can buy 7.62 uppers for ARs and you can buy 7.62 XCRs... it would make sense that there would be a market for some 7.62 mags to go along with them (other than the XCR pistol mags which work great but arent long enough).
