to pick up middle aged men at the range....
kidding, shottys have no place on the range.
mostly to deviate away from the norm. everyone and their grandpa have a old shotgun kicking around them farm, rusted to crap that shoots a little to the left.
I like the hardiness and the solidness of a well built "tacticool" shotty. and the amount of customization available.

Extra note on shotties. The sound of a pump shotgun being racked used to be enough to send even the most stubborn idiot packing and running. I know it sure as hell got our attention back in the younger days when my cousins (of course I was not party to those frivilous actions!) raid farmer's gardens for a quick snack out in the flatlands. That "schlick - schlack" was usually followed by some rock salt flying through the air.
"That sound" was right up there with the Fear of God, even more so if you got a lump in the rump. Most of today's perps and youth have no idea of what that sound means, so perhaps a part of the "tactical" factor is meant to make up in the intimidation department. Just a thought.

Plus they are fun to shoot as well!

I have shot a few shotgun only action matches. One that always stands out is BadBoyBeeson's match in Napanee a while back. Over 140 rounds of slugs and bird shot. Fun...fun...fun!!! Not as fun to shoot without a "tactical" shotgun. :)
