This inconsistency was found in a new box of 250gr Lapua Scenars. Something like this would definitely ruin your day/match/group/etc.. It appears that some of the core is missing!

Basically identical with the meplat on the lighter one being larger. Obviously a problem occurred during the manufacturing process somewhere. Glad I caught it! I've been using 250 Scenars for many years now and this was a first for me.

I guess that the moral of the story is "you don't always get what you pay for!"

Last year, I had about six 147 gr bullets mixed in with a fresh box of 1,000 x CamPro 115 gr 9mm bullets. Un-noticed, this is the equivalent to a destroyed gun / serious injury / fatality at 105% above PMAX...

I've gotten 9mm bullets in factory 308 Hornady boxes, 308 stamped brass in 243 Winchester bags, but never anything dangerous.

I recently opened a fresh box of Winchester white-box 9mm 115 gr target ammo, mixed in with the copper- jacketed rounds was an as- yet unidentified round of 9mm with a plain lead round nose and what looks like a different primer.
I was tempted to contact Winchester about it, but I expect they could care less.

I am just starting out in reloading, I have only loaded 50 9mm 124 gr rounds. I weighed all the bullets and thought I was being an over cautious newbie...now I'm glad I did.

I have had this happen to me also, thank god they are fairly noticeable. I noticed the bullet was a little longer, weighed it, turns out to be 147grn

OP, I've had that happen occasionally in the past with a couple out of boxes of Speer and one out of a box of Sierra MKs. The bullets looked perfect at first glance but just felt different. Similar to your bullet they were about half weight. All three bullets were in 225 grn 338 diameter. This isn't something that happens a lot and I send a lot of bullets downrange. By the way, I believe your assessment as to accuracy is viable.

When I was even more anal than I am now, back in the day when I shot Hunter Bench Rest, mostly 308 Win and some 6ppc, I weighed every bullet and put them in boxes with 1/10 grain difference as measured on my electronic scale. The scale I used was extremely accurate and was a converted load cell from one of the changed out units where I worked. The readout was digital and the nice thing was that weight was instant as soon as power was applied to the cell and sent to the PLC which converted the signal to grains. I would have loved to have taken that unit home with me when the plant closed. It was available but power supply and space at home wasn't. This was a Honeywell unit that weighed close to 25 kilos and needed to be kept WARM/COOL as well as taking up a lot of valuable space. Measurements were 13"deep by 18" wide by 24" long. Then their was the cooling and warming unit as well as the load cell system. I don't miss not having it at my disposal anymore. I'm no longer quite as anal.
