I'm looking for the best possible ballistics programm for long range shooting as far as 1500m to 2000m. I have a Kestrel 4000NV and would like to use it with the programm and it's a bluetooth Kestrel so if the programm can connect with the bluetooth version, it will be the best. I will have to put the wind direction manualy because that Kestrel don't do it.

What is your suggestion for that ballistics programm I can use.

Thanks to all of you.

Once I develop a load and get an accurate velocity from the chronograph, I use hornady's online calculator on advanced setting. I plug in density altitude at 1000 intervals and wind at 5kmh intervals and print them off.

After that I verify DA with the kestrel and fine tune the drop for various distances at the range/shooting spot.Once I have the real data I make dope cards on the computer with different DA variations.

All free, just a bit of work.

I've been meaning to try the new Hornady calculator as it's 4DOF program uses custom drag curves that are measured empirically with data from a doppler radar, out as far as the round can be pushed. That being said, I believe there are only a few projectiles (made by Hornady) that are in the available library, at this point? I've been using Ballistics AE on my iPhone and it works very well, I trued up the drop in the program out to 870 yards and the numbers it spits out now have been bang on out to 1274 yards. My Kestrel doesn't have Bluetooth so I have to input DA manually so I can't say as to whether or not it's Bluetooth capable but I think I heard that it was?

Applied Ballistics Mobile. Costs a bit but worth every penny. Once you get all your data, it is very "on". It has preset info for bullets and even the ability to enter the scope and model of crosshair you have, and it will correlate impact points for your scope hash marks if it's in the system. Very well made system. Find in App Store. Believe Bryan Litz worked on it or had input in its creation. I seem to remember it was about 29.99 when I got it.

Personally I use a aKestrel 4500 with applied ballistics program, one unit with all the environmentals on a live feed, Bluetooth availible as well. The new 5700 is a great unit that I will upgrade to this fall, little more user friendly and more refined info to be put in with an easier truing feature. Once trued up they are very accurate at the long distance. Sure they are $1000 but worth every dime as you can spend that kind of money on ammo and still be making some expensive noise not knowing why your not where you want to be, the kestrel 5700AB cuts a lot of corners on the guessing game for you.

I completely agree with viking's post above. If your not quite ready to part with the cash though then get the applied balistic app and use that.

Another thing I do is use my magneto speed to record muzzle velocity at different temps and keep track of it to input into whatever program your going to use through out the year as temps change.

The kestrel with applied ballistics is worth the money though if you're really wanting to get into long bombing.

On a side note: verify that your scope is level and that you have a bubble level to keep it that way when shooting. Also verify that your scope actually moves the reticle what it says it does by shooting at 100 yards or meters and adjusting it up/down about 10-20 moa or mils and measure that it moved it accordingly so that you don't think your solution from your chosen app or kestrel is lying to you.

Direction your shooting matters too so pick something that can account for direction of flight as well
