Yea, they're great if you don't mind a $1000 rifle that produces 4" groups.

The one I had was worse than that. It was a stainless 1987 manufacture with a 7 twist, had it in a folding stock with pin on flash hider. About 6 inch groups at 100 yards off the table with a scope.
Not a good rifle for a handloader either, mine threw the brass around 20 feet and put a large dent in every one.
It was very reliable though as long as you had Ruger mags, most others fed poorly. I sold it and never looked back.

Cman, good luck, I hope yours shoots better than mine did.

Well, i only had 9 norinco bullets, so i figured what the hell.
First 9 ever fired out of this rifle, using a laser bore sight at 60 yards. No bench, no bipod.
First two went high and to the left, next seven got closer, now i have to wait for canpar......

I will never understand what draws people to such a crappy rifle at such a high price. Why Ruger continues to make this thing is just beyond me.

You have purchased a great rifle that has received far to many unwarranted negative reviews.

The bad reviews are entirely warranted IMO.

Non restricted and being cheaper than the other non restricted options is what keeps sales up.

I don't get it, do you live in some remote area with no shops that carry 223? If I had a new rifle and no ammo I would go buy a few boxes while waiting for the delivery man.

Why would you waste the only rounds you had shooting freehand? You're showing what you can do not what the rifle can do. I might have done the same thing but there is no point posting a picture of it other than to show that the rifle functions.

I can understand someone wanting a cheaper non restricted rifle, what blows my mind is that guys will buy these as a budget alternative then spend hundreds of dollars trying to make them more tacticool with an aftermarket stock and a flash hider and all the other junk that's available for them that doesn't make them shoot any better. They end up spending the same money as a used XCR and still have a rifle that shoots 4 inch groups at 100 yards (on a good day).

If I was going to buy one I would leave it alone and just spend my money on ammo, mags and a recoil buffer so it isn't beating the hell out of itself. A scope is pretty much useless on a rifle that isn't accurate enough to shoot a coyote past 150 yards. If I really felt the need to blow some money on one an adjustable gas block would be the first thing I'd buy.

Fixed it for you...
Sorry the longevity of this rifle is for a good reason. They are a fine bullet proof rifle that will eat ammo and take a considerable beating. Yes they are not a tack driver but are accurate in the hands of a good shooter, that is the catch a good shooter.
