Wicked Lee Enfield FAQ!

1. Are all real no5mk1 marked ROF ? None are m47/c?
2. Is it unusual for a No1mk3* (FTR'48) to have no markings on the right side "wrist" behind trigger guard?
3. Can you adjust headspace issues on a No1mk3* using different bolt heads? Why does marstar ask for measurement when you order one? Is this measurement stamped on the head, or do you measure it?
4. Can or should an otherwise good barrel be "counterbored" if there is pitting or corrosion issues at the muzzle?

"...measurement stamped on the head..." Nope. Use a micrometer.
"...Can you adjust headspace issues on a No1mk3*..." Yep. However, it takes a handful of bolt heads to try with headspace guages(They measure nothing. Only tell you if the headspace is within tolerance with that particular bolt head and bolt.) until you find one that works. Just putting on a longer one guarantees nothing.
Marstar will sell you whatever length they have. Still no guarantee a longer bolt head will fix bad headspace.

I'll need to dig out my book for specifics

1 - No5's were made by Faz and BSA so there will be different markings

2 - is it no markings or is it marked B.S.A. Co. I find it strange that they would have scrubbed all the markings

3 - yes but as per sunrays post

4 - how bad is it, is it causing accuracy issues ? I don't think I would counterbore unless it was a sporter and then I would just shortenthe barrel

Thanks for the replies woodchopper and sunray!
1.I have two no5's a rof f and bsa, that's why I asked!
2. not all markings are scrubbed, but none on right wrist at all. I'll post a pic of the top and left side markings.
3. If I cut a tenthou shim and slap it on a fired casing, will that tell me anything? ie. if it won't close? No-one around me has proper gauges, even the local gunsmith!
4. Bore is bad at the muzzle, one of our members that I bought it from will exchange it for a better barrel action. This one has been abused, bad pitting (particularily the last 4 inches) and crown wear/rifling wear at the muzzle. Lost cause I think, and I don't sporter guns, I'm going the other way.:)

gairlochen on CGN makes .303 gauges. I bought a set from him a few months ago (and promptly put them irretrievably in 'a safe place').
