its riveted to the side no threads n screws. he said he had no idea that's how it was when he got it" from some dealer in the east" he cant remember who it is a 1954 dated Russian

thought it was prity interesting, and im going to assume a POSP will fit it. I posted the pic on westrifles section to see if he thought POSP would fit

So weird! You'd think that there would be too much recoil force on that mount with one of those big Russian POSP scopes and mounts for only 2 rivets to hold! Would be slightly better with a couple of wood screws in the stock part as well, but I wouldnt think.it would last very long. Could be wrong, but that is my first impression.

Thats the best way to mount an optic on the sks! And yes indeed any SVD mount or universal mount style will fit. And it appears even AK mounts might even work since it has the little cut out on the bottom rail. Id personally just stick with SVD styles, those optics sit at a more appropriate level for the SKS.

Recoil from an SKS is negligible. I wouldn’t worry about making it more secure.

Rivets are pretty strong, if they are installed right and are tight I wouldn’t expect them to move.

OP, good score. Lots of options for mounting rails and optics to go with that mount, I’ve always liked how combloc optics look on a combloc rifle.

Nice score... That's a keeper if your optics setup holds zero. After you install a scope (I would buy a red dot), splurge and buy a box of decent ammo (Prvi, Geco, etc.) and report back on how it shoots.

Those rivets aren't going anywhere. find a scope and try it out . Id say a POSP scope . nice scopes .
