Wife Requested a Valentines Gift

So we now live in Texas in around a 70/30 split, with the 70 in Katy TX.

When we first landed in Stillwater OK in 2018 for my project, the Wife scoffed at carrying a pistol, then we moved to Katy TX and really settled in, she started coming to the range with me and got pretty proficient with the 43. She was the one to bring it up, will never need it but if the unthinkable came down, something in the purse could be handy so the holster is just for range, storage and me if I take it.

It took a bit to wash the Canadian social conditioning out but she did it on her own and on her own timeline She is a little uncomfortable with the Glock and semi’s in general and wanted a revolver even the the LCR has no safety either lol. I was sure the Airweight would win the day but surprisingly it had a grittier trigger, heavier, no Houge grips and a much more rudimentary sight, the notch was so shallow.

I tried to pitch the Kimber Micro 9 that I was smitten with but no dice which is all good as I do admire the simplicity of the revolver. I ordered some very mild 148gr wadcutters from Freedom Munitions to start her off with, the Norma fodder will be for the second phase and some +P hollow points for the purse….

YouTube has a number of videos that show how effective a plain. mild wadcutter is. Big hole and lots of penetration.

With a short revolver, the hot hollow points still don't expand, so the wad cutter cuts a better channel.

And much less recoil and noise, so practice is more fun.

Always better to have & not need than need & not have.

Also, 100% correct for her to go with what she is most comfortable with - wheelgun vs auto.

And I'd advise to encourage her to also practice with the +P's for if she ever needs to use it with them.

Cheers Y’all, good advice and videos! We have an indoor 25yd range about a 1/2 mile from us, so I will be back with some 7yd targets. Pretty respected range with some very good instructors, may invest in a few lessons for us both, now to manufacture some time……

Please stick to mild wadcutters for the first many sessions. It is so easy for a newbie to develop a flinch with hot ammo.

I don't know what your wadcutters are cast as. Some are short solids and some are long with deep hollow bases.

I'm quite sure you can find someone or even a shop in your area to handload some hollow base wadcutters with the hollow end up.

When they're loaded that way, they expand readily on impact and penetrate quite well.

Depends on how much damage your wife is willing to inflict??

There is only one real way to completely destress a stressful situation. The alternative, especially with WOKE judges, can keep you mental anguish and in debt for the rest of your life.

Awesome! Jelous of your TX living I will admit One thing about Purse Carry, is that after watching numerous Active Self Protection, channels videos on youtube, he highly recomends against it, & shows allot videos where the purse just got snatched outright {with gun in it} or how ther lady wasnt able to draw from the purse in time, but a good holster would have done the trick.

Handloads may be fine for practice but for actual carry might want to stick with factory ammo only.
