wife says I need a new .45 and she buys me a P220

Hk45. I own one and love it, over 2000 round through it so far and not one hiccup, stoppage, or malfunction. That would be my suggestion to you. Mags are 90-100$ each though

cmon....

My recommendation to you would be in no particular order:
S&W 645 (kinda like a 1911 a little bit)
FNX 45 tactical (not at all like a 1911)
Glock 21 (not at all like a 1911)
Jericho 941
Beretta PX4 Special Duty
Springfield XDm 45

Only because I own / have owned or had experience with them

I don't own a 1911 in 45, maybe someday, the 1911 platform just doesn't appeal to me at this time...

Yeah and a 45 colt revolver is even more expensive to shoot. Like paying almost a buck a round? Cause you're gonna pay almost a buck a round.

If I was going to get a revolver It would definitely be a .357 smith and wesson 686. They're cheap as dirt and have an amazing trigger. And .357 is not that crazy for price. It also makes it kind of a given to pick up a .357 lever gun for the common ammo to have another fun gun to shoot.

I suggested 45 Colt because it is expensive...this leads to reloading and because you can use the same bullet and powder as 45ACP you can cut the cost down to about the same as 22LR if you also cast your own bullets.

Kriss Vector friend. And they are fun. Too bad we can't have the full auto versions here in the people's democratic republic of Canada. There is soon to be a 9mm version as well.

I own a Ruger SR45 and I absolutely love it. Fully ambidextrous out of the box, ergos are great, trigger is pretty good. Out of all my pistols I shoot it the best. And the dealer I bought it from still has them for around $450.

Well, if you like the finest things, I can recommend the Pardini GT6, fine fillet steak as opposed to flank

Another vote for the CZ97. Crazy accurate. Do note that it has a double action trigger, which, for some, can be a bit sloppy (long pull) compared to single action offerings. It is a big, heavy .45acp. It has a ramped, uh..... mind block..... from the clip to the barrel, there is a ramp there.... lol, it means it does a great job handling semi-wadcutter rounds. (flat tipped bullets that make real pretty holes in paper)
