I had 4 shotguns. My Remington 870 supermag express 12gauge, which over the past 6 years i have had no real issues with. I changed the follower for an aluminum one and the extractor for a non MIM one. I changed the stock and forend for aesthetic reasons. Basically I wanted a black shot gun and the camo had worn off the receiver.
I then bought a second hand O/U 12 gauge mirocchi which is a beautiful gun, but hard to brake open.
I bought a second hand ithaca skb sxs 20 gauge. This little guy is a nice little gun for grouse hunting. I love it. Bought it after reading a bunch of hunting dog books. Like Charles Fergus's books. Rough shooting Dog and Hunters Book of Days.
Last March when I bulged a disc in my back I was going nuts not being able to go ice fishing or do anything really so I acquired my father in laws Lakefield Mossberg 500 and restored it. Removing camo duct tape from the barrel and the wood. Reblued the gun and used only linseed oil on the stock.at Turned out really nice.
But when my wife and I traveled with in-laws to Manitoba this september for waterfowl hunting we stopped at Cabelas and I joked maybe I should buy a new gun. Seeing as how I have 2 pumps. an o/u and a sxs I should by a new semi. To my amazement she said lets go look at one. She was worse then the guy trying to sell me the guns she scrutinized every gun I looked at. Saying things like "It feels cheap." and "The finish isn't that good." I looked at a wetherby sa-08, winchester sx3, Browning maxus (wife owns one, I bought it for her christmas gift last year), Browning Silver, Browning A5, benelli Super Black Eagle, and the remington Versa max. I wanted to see a benelli M2 but they had none. My wife said I should either buy a browning or the benelli she didn't like the other models. What can I say she has good/expensive taste. I humed and hawed about it for a few minutes did my other shopping and then come back for my new shotgun. Holding it in my hands one more time and my mind was made up. A Browning A5 stalker (Matte Black) 28" barrel 3" chamber 12 gauge. I have put 3 different brands of steel/non toxic shot through it of various loads and shot sizes, 3 different types of lead shot #6 and #7 1/2. No malfunctions. I can carry it all day and not feel burdened. It has very little recoil. I love the gun and I love my wife.
On another note I have two rifles for moose season. A enfield no4 mark 1 with a bushnell trophy xlt 3X9 for rough going and a browning BLR 308 with a Leupold VX1 2X7 on leupold QD rings so if need be I can utilize the iron sights. The BLR was my grandpa Gerry's so I handle it with the utmost care. I no longer put it in a gun boot because the liner was removing the bluing from the rifle. Now all that being said I had issues with my enfield this year. The mount moved and I lost my zero, so I used Locktite on the screws and zeroed the scope. I went to take it out and the scope moved in the rings after bouncing in the gun boot on the quad. The mount set up isn't the best. I got mad and told my wife maybe I should just buy a new rifle next year. "I was wondering when you were going to break down and buy a new rifle." was her response. Browning xbolt stainless/synthetic 270wsm or 270 I haven't decided. I love my wife.
Does any one else have a hunting wife or am I alone on this one.
