My wife just got her dads 39A, and I am obsessed with it. I would like to pretty it up a bit for her and keep coming across some sights called "Skinner sights". They look awesome, and seem to get great reviews everywhere I look.
Just scoped her gun for fun, shot 50 yards and now I am even more in love with it. The horn sights work just fine, but I have it in my head to get some of these Skinner sights and a new gold trigger (the old one is showing wear).
She will not let me scope the gun, so I thought a good quality set of peep sights would be the next best thing.
Anyone have any input on the Skinners or any other suggestions?
She is not a hard core gun gal, but she appreciates what she has, and this is an important one, it is the gun she wanted, plus it was her fathers.
Skinner allows a bit of "Bling" with some brass accents, and I was hoping for some input before I make my order.
Thanks guys!

I have the Skinner sights on my Henry. I am in the process of refinishing the reciever cover, so no pics, sorry. But cannot say anything bad about the sights. They look awesome and work well. The brass front sight looks great but isnt practical, it washes out in bright sunlight. Also Andy is great to deal with and they ship to Canada.

I have Skinner sights on many rifles, Henry's, Handi's etc... love them... excellent product... the "Black Gold" option is worth it IMO...

Black gold is what caught my eye, is it an attractive setup. Did you have to change the front sight too?

I get the feeling your wife doesn't want anything changed.

We discussed it. I don't want to make major changes, but I would like to see the "gold" trigger replaced, it shows signs of wear and could stand a new one. Cheap enough, only like ten bucks or so. The horn sights do not do the accuracy and justice, scoped it yesterday or the day before and was astounded, but as I passed through the kitchen with the scoped rifle I got the "don't you dare" look.
I was hoping the smaller diameter peep sights from Skinner can let the rifles accuracy shine through a bit more, and she like the looks of them too.

Something about this sight seems to sit well on that rifle, the brass over the gold trigger looks nice. Would like to see the brass front blade on there too, but the wash out mentioned earlier doesn't excite me.

I have Skinner peeps on my Henry lever. While I absolutely love the sights themselves but have had serious problems finding a front sight post to match (taller). Now would be a good time of year to start on a project like that as you can expect that the gun will be out of commission for a couple months while you figure out what height post is needed and order the required parts and whatnot.
BTW, the black gold, when paired with the gold trigger...wow purty.

Here is the Skinner Black Gold peep on my Henry Frontier (brass conversion)... You will definitely have to change your front sight... on this gun I chose the Lyman AUG17 Globe with Lee Shaver inserts... on other guns, I used the Skinner Patridge Blade in brass.

Skinner sell black front sights in different sizes, if you have a metal front band/sight on your Henry. But other combinations can also be used.

If you use the reciever mounted rear sight, you will need a taller front. If you use the barrel mounted rear, you can get away with using the original front sight.

I have used the brass front sight and it was washed out in sunlight. However if you use the front sight hood then it works, but then the brass is hidden. So.......it a toss up.

I like the hood, so it will stay.
Have you considered painting the blade edge black to get visibility back?

I will try and see if that will help, right now I am waiting for the front band ( and other parts) to come back from coating so I can shoot it again.
