well i took the wife out to the rang friday after work(her first time).set her up on my custom ruger 10/22.(i was there just to season in a new Rem700 tactical barrel).she went trough a few hundred rounds all by he self.once we were home she wouldnt shut up about shooting and guns:rockOn:.she did try a few of my rifles .308 and .243.didnt like the recoil on the .308,but she said she didnt mind the .243(m70 varmint).i did notice that the sound was a little bit of a factor with her,but it was her first time with firearms....
anyway today i just ordered a .223 savage 12FV for her. im looking to see if anyone has some loads for the 1in9 twist and theis 26"barrel.

75gr Amax or Berger, Varget, Win brass, CCI 450 is my LR load.

For plinking, consider H335, WCC735 or some similar surplus powder. Cheap and decent accuracy.

Most any Hornady or Sierra or Berger bullet will shoot well. If this is just for SR plinking, consider the ARMSCOR 62gr FMJ's. No match bullet but well priced.

Let me know...

Xfan, no clue but a large amount has been shipped to CGN members. Hopefully, we will get a report. I expect it to be a milspec bullet so MOAish would be reasonable from a bolt gun. They look well made but until we get holes in paper, can't say.

I also just got some PRVI 75gr match. Look like a 77gr MK clone. When my barrel gets back from the shop, I will launch some downrange and see how they work. The best priced 'match' bullet on the market right now - IF it shoots :)

kyjelly, look for any Hornady Vmax or Amax. These have been shooting really well in most any Savage that posts results. Just talked to a couple of shooters that shot 55gr Vmax out to 1000yds with excellent accuracy (pretty calm winds).

What more do you want? Maybe a 75gr Amax or Berger :)

Enjoy...

check sierra's web site they have alot of loads for .223 rem. and they seperate them between Semi and bolt guns.
I used Hornady HPBT's with 21.1 gr. of H335 with great success. I also like 2230 both very clean powders to use and clean up after.

i have a bunch of 55gr swaged fmj that i will use to break her barrel in.going to roll up some ballistic tip 55gr also.she is just going to be 100-200 yards for now(all the rang is here).

My favorite load for that rifle is:

Sierra MK 77gn
Varget 24gn
COL 2.36

2850 fps from a 26 inch bbl

Pretty much gives you one single hole, and you can use it well beyond 100 yards, and you do not have to change loads
